Neighborhood of the Year: Rogers Park vs. the Loop

Seriously, I can't believe Rogers Park made it this far. I'd compare it to the Loyola basketball team making the sweet sixteen in the NCAA tournament. Or Sullivan High School having a winning season in any sport than street fighting.

Rogers Park has restaurants neighbors won't support. We've got neighbors trying to keep businesses from opening in the neighborhood before plans for the business are even disclosed. Our businesses advertise for free on Everyblock or post fliers illegally on light poles like Act One/Mayne Stage. We've got graffiti and gangs.  We've got shootings, murders, muggings - litter, negative loitering and net-neighbors who rarely leave their computer to actually take a walk in the neighborhood.

The Loop has tourists from around the world. Millions of people shopping at stores that advertise in the newspapers, magazine's, radio and TV. High-rises that touch the sky. Buildings that win architectural awards. Theatre's that house award winning shows and artists. A world class skyline. World class resaurants. In short, the loop makes this city tick.

When People's Gas does work in the Loop they fix things right - right away. When Peoples Gas works in Rogers Park we've got pot-holes left behind for months.

Yet, despite all our flaws, Curbed Chicago has us in the quarterfinals for "Neighborhood of the Year."

Rogers Park has made it this far, we might as well keep our Cinderella hopes alive. Rogers Park residents, pull your fingers and eyes away from Everyblock long enough to vote here.

If you've got time before heading back to Everyblock to see who lost a kitty or dog, tell us who you voted for, and why.

Excellent report. Jeff-O tried turning this into a puppies and rainbows story but you told it like it is. That's professional reporting. If it isn't pretty don't make it pretty. Nice work.

So when is Peoples Gas going to repave Clark St?
They've left that strip of rough concrete there for months now!

OMG I am totally going to vote for us. I missed the presidential election because I was hanging with the guys from The National after a weekend concert and I lost track of time. This seems worth it though I can't wait to vote!
