Gidget Green refused to show up to court December 4, 2012, forcing Judge Calabrese to issue an immediate warrant for Ms. Green's arrest. He also set a bond of $5,000.00.
But it didn't have to come to this. The state's attorney had a plea deal in the works that would've kept her out of jail. Had Gidget shown up she would've been offered a 90 suspended sentence. Meaning she would've been let go as long as she checked herself in to clean herself up.
Judge Calabrese allowed Occupy Rogers Park to address the court, whereas Mr. Ginderske approached the bench claiming a video posted on line this morning made Gidget "paranoid" and "frightened" to show up in front of the Judge.
About 10 other Occupy Rogers Parkers showed up wearing yellow armbands in support of Ms. Green.
On the other side of the fence, I'm going to have to eat crow on this. Mary Ann and Colm from the MorseL attended the hearing as court advocates, sending a message to Judge Calabrese - Gidget has become a problem in front of their business. That said, I appreciate the time both Mary Ann and Colm spent defending the positive direction Morse Avenue has taken in the last 8 years. Here's a public "thank you."
I'd also like to thank Ana Bermudez from the Rogers Park Business Alliance and Ann H. from Alderman Moore's office for showing up.
BLOGNOTES: Katy Hogan from the Heartland Cafe showed up and remained completely down the middle, not taking one side or another. But did have a letter to the court which I was told contained both a positive and negative outlook on the situation.
The judge personally thanked everyone who did show up for this case, mentioning when a community feels so strongly about this arrest, he had to hear all sides.
