Working for The Rogers Park People's Development Group on the Taxpayers Time
Friday July 29, 2005. Morse Avenue and Wayne Street. 10:25am. Nothing special about a flier hanging on the outside of a business wall or vacant window except the flier junks up the neighborhood. Unlike mine, these fliers will stay up for months or until the tape loses it stickiness and falls off the wall. I could link you to a dozen such stories on this site regarding this very subject.
This flier is for a multi family garage sale at 1217 N. Chase. What did that say... North Chase. This caught my eye.
There is a West Chase. But no North Chase.
Someone screwed up. This is something Alderman Moore or DevCorp North would do. I looked at the bottom of the flier to find it's roots, it is sponsored by the Rogers Park People's Development Group.
The what? Who was that? Have any of you heard this group? Who was putting these fliers up on Morse Avenue?
Lucky I had my camera to catch all this.
Oh no, it's a Special Service Area janitor. A janitor hired with taxpayer funds to sweep and clean. These janitors aren't hired to do promotional networking, they are hired to clean and sweep. Networking, now that's Special Service Area Manager Rene Carmago's job. He told me so himself. That's what he's paid the big bucks for. Networking for businesses IN the Special Service Area.
Not some unknown fringe group having a garage sale in a school parking lot on NORTH CHASE (where ever that is?).
So I tried to call Rene and get a answer to what was going on. The phone answerer girl told me he was at a meeting and hung up on me. How rude, I expect this from Kimberly Bares, but not the phone answerer girl! So I went and asked the janitor what he was doing and why he was hanging fliers for some group who wasn't even in the Special Service Area boundries, who wasn't listed as a member of DevCorp North.
Not that the janitor hired to clean up wanted to tell me when I asked, but being caught red handed with fliers in his bag and a blunt in his mouth, the Special Service Area Janitor had no choice but to admit he was hanging the fliers when he was suppose to be cleaning and sweeping. His boss man told him to do it.
As I took his picture, his buddy in the background laughed and said " ha ha, cameraman caught ya, you goin' to be in that Hell Hole"!
