accident?
Was the death of Wayne Jones a homicide?
The death of Wayne Johnson was an accident? He accidently got beat up?
Why are Ceasefire and ONE having an event that is seperate from the CAPS event?
>I remember somebody mentioning that he lived very nearby,
>and would have occasion to be walking around there in the course of his daily living.
Wayne Jones was killed steps from his front door. Wayne Jones was a resident of the taxpayer-subsidized Morse Senior Apartments owned by Aldermanic pals Jay Johnson, John Terzakis, and the Rogers Park Community Council.

You remember, the senior building in the middle of the most dangerous beat in the neighborhood with no security, links below:
Sunday, December 18, 2005: Seniors Feel Like A Prisoners @ Home Request for support from the Morse Senior Apartments Tenant Association
"On and off for years, tenants, supported by RPCAN and the Rogers Park Section 8 Tenant Council, have been asking for the "state-of-the art security" they were promised when the building opened at 1528 Morse with such fanfare. Jay Johnson, the principal owner (Rogers Park Community Council, RPCC, is a partner and part owner of the building) received public subsidy to rehab the building, which had previously been a notorious 'drug house'. Promises of state of the art security was one of the reasons for public support."

Monday, December 19, 2005: RPCAN Responds to Alderman Moore's PR Stunt
"The National Equity Fund recently visited about 20 senior affordable housing developments around the country. Every one of the properties in an urban setting had 24 hour security at the door. The Morse Senior Building does not provide state of the art security and does not have regular on-site management, both promised when the building opened."
Thursday, December 22, 2005: Safety For Seniors-No Agreement Reached
"Johnson insisted ... there was no money in the budget for a security guard. Of any kind. ... He insisted there was no excess money in the building's budget ... and said the building's budget was not designed for that."

"On-site security is a terrific idea - and an expensive one. ... Rogers Park Community Council cares about the residents in this building and our community. We have a full-time Senior Advocate on site ... Cary Steinbuck, Executive Director, Rogers Park Community Council"

> Don't get old. Don't get weak.
... and if you do get old and then get beat to death, it's an accident
homicide has been redefined to be killing someone under 50
over 50 you can't be murdered, it ruins the numbers
Has any of you gone over to Mrs. Jones and had a good cry?
Has any of you gone up to Mrs. Jones and hugged her?
Have any of you stopped by and said words of comfort to Mrs. Jones?
Have any of you offered Mrs. Jones condolences?
I have.
There is more than one victim here, there is Mrs. Jones, Wayne Jones wife. She just lost her husband to a senseless beating.
Tom, Put those thoughts on your own blog.

in the spirit of fairness, i might suggest that you reconsider the comment moderator practice that has been enabled since you first began your blog.
i believe we need a level playing field whether we happen to agree on issues or not.
this type of selective removal of a comment is a reaction to your selective inclusion of comments.
it forces us all to go to your blog to read your deleted comments. in my mind, your criticism of craig in this instance,is unfair.
Dear Dr. ME Sir,
Can you please dig around in that corpse a little longer? Do we know for sure he would NOT have dropped dead on that sidewalk right then & there anyway, even if he had not been beaten? He was old, right? Can't you find SOMETHING about to blow, an embolism, an aneurism, a bad ticker, something? If he was on death's door already, it's not really fair to our stats, we know you will agree. Don't forget a tox screen!

With 3 senior buildings on Morse, it would be a huge boost to the 2423 stats up front if we can make old people ineligible for murder.
morse man-
good catch. geez hugh, i didn't realize you thought of me in that "old" way. maybe i should get a brighter light bulb above my mirror.
If you are not hale & hearty enough to handle a Morse Ave beating, then you should not be walking Morse Ave
Paradise,
(Correct me if I'm wrong Hugh)
I think Hugh was being sarcastic there...
Can we just clear some things up? In the news reports I've seen about this incident they say that Mr. Jones was disabled...(I believe they said he had suffered a prior stroke, but I could be wrong about that.) It was on the channel 7 news link that Craig posted. So that might explain why he had access to this housing (he wouldn't have to be a senior to qualify, simply a person on permanent disability). It might also explain why the ruling on the cause of death is complicated.
I hear the anger, I'm not saying you're wrong to be angry, I'm just saying that this case might be a little complicated to rule on because Mr. Jones was already ill when the attack took place. If his cause of death was another stroke, which the beating may have aggravated to happen sooner rather than later, does that make it a murder? Manslaughter? Aggravated assault? Just wondering what the law would say about that...
(not trying to say that the law and our personal sense of what is moral and just always align perfectly - please don't accuse me of not caring about Mr. Jones...)
