* The Right Political Yard Sign

Sign Week Continues at the Hell Hole

The signs are changing daily folks. Right here in the 49th Ward no less. Last night our 13th district County Board Commissioner Larry Suffredin unveiled a joint sign showing support for.....

[ Drum Roll Please ]... "Mr. Specific" Forrest Claypool. [ Loud cheers from the crowd as red/white and blue balloons and streamers fall from the ceiling! ]

This bucks the 49th ward democratic party choice of the other guy.

Larry Suffredin wasn't alone. Long time activist/business owner Katy Hogan gave a speech (what else is new) and grabbed a handful of Forrest Claypool signs to pass around. Talk about a love-fest specifically designed for Forrest Claypool in Rogers Park.

But let's not stop there. Let's keep the signs of political expression alive. If you want one of these signs for your window or yard e-mail me at craiggernhardt@comcast.net, I will deliver them personally to your home. Just be specific with the address.

Update #1: A big shout out goes to James Ginderske, Thomas Westgard and all the others who took the time to organize and attend this "Meet the Candidates" event last night.

It is upsetting to see so few people show up to the very important events like this. I put a event of this nature on in 2004 with the same pathetic turn-out. As poor the turn-out was, I will not give up on this ward and James and Thomas aren't either. Well done men.

Alexi Giannoulias, the candidate for Illinois Treasurer stopped by for a visit last night. Alexi gave a presentation why he should control the state funds. Easy enough answer, Alexi an his family run a successful neighborhood bank. If you read any negative stories from the democratic party about Alexi, don't believe them, it's all smear tactics.

Sadly, John Stroger or his employee David Fagus couldn't make it last night, but they did sent Wayne Frazier on the behalf. It's always a pleasure to visit with Wayne.

Update: #2: I've received nine e-mails for the first dozen Claypool/Suffredin yard signs, and it's not even noon. This is excellent! Keep the e-mails coming folks. Pass the word. Tell a friend. There's still room on the 49th ward Claypool bandwagon.

It would be great if 200, 500 people would come out for these types of events. But to have 50 or more people show up with little notice is NOT pathetic. It's a good turn out. Let's make sure our language remains positive. Let's organize more of these events in Rogers Park for every election. Maybe if someone, like James Ginderske, can make these happen on a regular basis, then people in the community will come to expect them, look for them, and turn out for them.

Congrats to James Ginderske for being able to bring these candidates into our neighborhood so that we had the opportunity to meet the real people behind the political bullshit. How did you do it anyway?
