* Candidate Avoids Union Bug
I got a e-mail from someone asking if I was spying in on Don Gordon and his French fundraiser last night. See, the 'other guy' held a $150 a plate fundraiser to mock Alderman Moore last night. According to Toni Duncan and her blog, the campaign office built with-out displayed permits was pretty lively and had a spy in a red car keeping track of who was coming and going. Lucky me, I don't own a red car, so it wasn't me. Thomas Westgard has a red truck though. Does that count? Anyhow, I went by this morning to view the leftovers. This is what I found.
Take a look see at the 'other guys' new poster. Forget the silly slogan for now. That's for another time. Take a look at the printers union bug. You ask yourself, "what am I talking about Craig?" I'm talking Unions. Every REAL candidate uses a Union printer. That's just how it's done. You don't ask questions. You find a Union printer-with a bug to print your campaign material. Don't go asking for union contributions, or even taking money from a union worker now. Then you're double cheating the union guy.
Well, from the above -chincy printed, non-union bug poster, Gordon avoided the Union printing company to save some bucks. Looks like he cut corners, again. Is that who you want running the ward? Someone who's going to cut some corners to get something cheaper that falls apart quicker and has to be replaced again?
Not me. I like it done right the first time.
Blog-Sidebar: Funny thing, Toni must have had a change of heart? Toni, over a couple of occasions I've talked with her mentioned to me she would'nt contribute to a candidate's war-chest. Now Toni's attending every political fundraiser and calling herself a "social butterfly? " It looks more to me like she's becoming a "political junkie," padding the kitty of every candidate running against her 49th ward fief. At last night's hefty fundraiser price, ($150) she really must want to see this fief removed.
James, you're next.

So Craig, is the word of the day "MEOW"?
sudokuist said: "I like how you're honest...."
That is hilarious. Next you'll be saying he's not a hypocrite. Or not a glory hound. Or not illiterate.
Dr J said: "To date I haven't heard anyone else running for Alderman. By attacking Don I would take that as assisting Joe in discrediting his competition."
There are others. James Ginderske announced that he was running. Archie Gait is also running a campaign (though nobody knows how seriously.)
But why would Craig rip apart everybody who is opposing his arch enemy, Joe Moore? Wouldn't it be in Craig's best interests to build them up? To make at least one of them seem like a viable candidate to oppose the incumbent? Is it just that Craig is holding everyone to the same standard?
Not likely. Smart money says that Craig himself with announce his candidacy for alderman any day now. Just as soon as he finishes digging up dirt on everyone else that's running. Watch for it!
This is all rediculous. 3 people running against Joe Moore will almost ensure a Moore victory.
I don't know much about any Don Gordon or James, but are there differences so great that we can't all join forces to take out Joe?
Combining the votes for all the "other guys" is the only way to take back our ward.
Note to Jim Witts: Aldermanic Elections are officially nonpartisan, where a candidate must receive a majority of the vote on February 27, 2007 to win election that day. Should no candidate receive a majority (which can occur if there are three or more candidates running), then a runoff election is held in early April.
Usually, a runoff election is politically fatal to a four-term incumbent like "Lying" Joe Moore. In the initial election, Moore has the advantage of name recognition and incumbency, as well as the experience of having run in the past (new candidates tend to stumble at times in their initial election campaigns). But in a runoff, thae challenger facing the incumbent has just been on the ballot just a few weeks earlier. By qualifying for the runoff, the challenger has gained instant credibility among the electorate. More often than not, this results in the incumbent going down to defeat.
Therefore, your contention that multiple challengers would insure Moore's re-election is incorrect.
Is the run off just between the top two canidates in this situation? Or are all allowed to be on the run-off ballot? In which case it would make more sense to combine those other votes into one.
Personally, I think that instead of attacking each other before the initial election, we should put all resources together and rally the comunity from the get-go. Don't wait for a run-off election.
Joe Moore does not do a good job of public relations. Anytime most people (outside this blog) hear his name is for some rediculous resolution that either has no bearing on RP or a negative one.
Join forces now, start ringing doorbells, holding rallies/events that can get more than the political "in" crowd excited.
The vast majority of people in RP do not know what is going on politically here. Those are the people that can help make a change.
Get permits and set tents up everynight outside the el stops and the "hot spots" Hold fun raisers for comunity orgs at these, and pass out political info. Sell food for fundraisers. Do this not just once or twice but over and over again. Don't rely on flyers and emails to get people invovled. Be aggressive and go after the voters. Create very public, open, welcoming events that will entice people.
Instead of going on peace walks, can't one of these canidates get permission to set up a booth outside the Block buildings every night. Invite parents to bring their kids, and give them baloons, sell ice cream. Have one of our many local musicians play every night. Turn that area into a family atmosphere. If there are 20 good people out side that building or at other hotspots, the dealers are not going to stick around.
I'm rambling now, but it just frustrates me that I see all this internal fighting and nothing seems to be getting done.
I agree with sudokist's post (above this one). Craig is a good guy.
Mr. Witts, the run-off is between the top two finishers on Feb. 27, thus insuring someone gets a majority of the vote in April.
I'll look forward to hearing more about the mysterious red car. It was not mine. Posted by Tom Westgard.
Nor was it mine..........That makes 2 cars that are mine or used to me mine not hanging around Don's opening.
Anybody else got a red car that was not hanging around?
Maroon does not count, I'm talking RED!
;-)
What's with all this bowing down and kissing the feet of unions? Like they are the end all and be all. Unions, like any other special interest group, are self-serving. That is not to say they are all bad but they are all about the union and taxpayers and consumers and, now I'm really going to get in trouble, even children (hi teacher's union!) take secondary concern. It would be a mighty cold day in hell before I'd join a union. But that's just me, one of those crazy folks who thinks that unions have outlived their usefulness and are now more about lobbying for more for them than simply helping workers get a fair shake. How much of your union dues go to enriching the union personnel? And we see how well the unions are saving the auto industry. Yeah, go unions. Not.
In case everyone hasn't noticed, it's the special interest groups, be they developers or whatever, that are kinda the problem.
Craigsfriend:
Working at a bank DOES qualify you to be labeled a banker. However, not all bankers are wealthy, although they do tend to be well off. As far as where he sent his kids to school, what do you care? If he made enough money to send them to a private school with better educational standards, good for him for thinking about his children's future.
I find it amusing that you mention that Mr. Gordon smells like a banker and has soft hands. Based upon this comment, I can only imagine that you are a Joe Moore supporter. Are you implying that Mr. Moore does not have soft hands? That he likes to get his hands dirty with some form of manual labor? Maybe you know something about Mr. Moore to which I have not previously been aware.
You seem to have a macho, tough guy approach to this "el gordo" guy. Have you tried to talk to Mr. Gordon personally, or did you just rush to the computer to tell everyone that he is a "chickenshit"?
While I am not a supporter of Mr. Gordon's campaign, or any candidate for that matter (historically a Moore supporter), I find this type of rhetoric appalling. And all because of an alleged building permit issue?
John -- I'm not a Gordon supporter at this point (and I won't be until I hear from everyone) but just out of curiosity, what does he have to answer for exactly? That's he's had a productive job in the private sector, that he educated his children (btw, where do Joe Moore's kids got to school? Since we're picking on educational choices, let's ask but I bet it's not a Chicago public school and most assuredly not an RP school). More to the point, can we be adults and leave candidates' kids out of things?
Does he have to answer for opening a lousy campaign office on Morse and getting a sign printed? I think we should string up and tar and feather everyone in RP who has done work without a permit (no, let's make that the whole city). Oh, look, the entire neighborhood is sporting feathers, along with the rest of the metropolis. Please. Are these really the best attacks you can come up with? Very lame.
But if you are SO concerned that Gordo be called to task for these highly questionable activities, that he "answer" for them (it's really hard not to laugh writing this), then please go camp out in his office, call his office, send emails demanding answers.
Oh but, wait, we've not even visited Donny's little website where with one click we'd see he's a project manager/systems analyst (I get these types confused with bankers all the time).
Are you folks posting this nutty stuff just to have fun (while maybe sipping and smoking) or are you truly insane?
