* Man Beaten - Then Hit by Car

Updated by Julie:
A 43-year-old man was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston Friday night, after being beaten and subsequently run over by a car as he lay in the street.

According to police, at approximately 10:30 pm on Friday night, witnesses reported a disturbance on the 1300 block of West Estes. They observed three males and one female in an altercation with the victim.

Witnesses told police the offenders repeatedly struck the victim’s head against the steel garbage dumpster. They then observed a car traveling eastbound on Estes at a high rate of speed, run over the victim who was lying in the street.

The vehicle, a white or gray Oldsmobile with a male driver, did not stop.

The hit-and run appeared unconnected to the beating, as the offenders were still on the scene.

The victim is in critical condition. Area 3 is investigating the incident.

No word yet if this will be classified as a gooning?

I read the police report and got the impresion that this wasn't a random attack, but a retaliatory attack of some kind. A pizza delivery man told D24 cops that the female screamed out, "That's enough, that's my boyfriend." (She later went back to rifle through his pockets and pull him into the middle of the street.) The males were heard by another witness to be yelling, "See what happens? You learn now?" The report looked legit, a lot of witnesses were interviewed.
