After trying to shift the blame to the Ramirez family in regards to no working smoke detectors in the 7706 North Marshfield #3 unit, aldermandic pal and neighborhood slumlord Jay Johnson had two words to say to the media yesterday.
If I were a landlord, I would try to do what I could to get their power back on,” Moore said.
After joining Daley at an unrelated news conference, Fire Commissioner Ray Orozco stressed that fire inspectors found only battery-operated smoke detectors in the first- and second-floor apartments at 7706 N. Marshfield and “no evidence of any smoke detector” in the third-floor unit where the fire started.
In the hours after the fire, Moore was quoted as saying that all of Johnson’s units had hard-wired smoke detectors.
On Wednesday, he said, “I was with a firefighter in a first-floor apartment when he pulled a unit out of the ceiling. It was wired. All I can say is what I saw. I can’t speak to the rest of the building. When I questioned the landlord, that was his claim — that the building was hard-wired.”

As tragic as the death of those children is, perhaps some good will come of it and JOE MOORE WILL BE VOTED OUT OF OFFICE!
