* 'Broken Heart' Helps Neighbors Sleep Better @ Nite

Reader Asks for More Help

Hi Craig, This could be a great story to ring out the year with... or not. It is your blog so let me know if this is worthy.

Here's the Problem:

On Wednesday, December 27th, Sophia, a neighbor on Wolcott near Touhy, had her 1996 Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer stolen between 10:30 am and 2 pm. About the same time of day, but different day, I found a guy raking leaves in front of my house. Likely he was about to hotwire my wife's car, but I put a shovel to his face and that seemed to deter him. We realize that the Ford Explorer is likely chopped to little bits but was wondering if you would post a picture and a description of the recent incidents that we have been seeing.

Here's What I'm Seeing:

1 - Around dusk on numerous days a crew of 10-20 youths traveling in groups of 4 & 5 on the sidewalks on Wolcott and Morse.... 2 - They are chatting on cell phones shadowing a couple of guys in the street..... 3 - Those in the street are trying door handles and bumping cars to see if alarms go off. .... 4 - Sometimes the groups on the sidewalk stops and chats at some length near a vehicle before proceeding..... 5 - Lots of broken glass found in recent weeks around Wolcott and Ravenswood between Rogers and Pratt..... 6 - I have called 911 a couple of times but this group is slippery and disappears before squads show and they show quickly.... 7- Would like to inform your readers what to look for and how to report and can get collaborating pictures and facts before going to print.

Signed,

ProGun

PS: A number of too lazy to post neighbors asked me to thank you for the countless hours of extra sleep your coverage on the dumpsters brought us. Sophia being one of those neighbors.

A couple kids from my daughter's school live at the building at Touhy and Damen (SE corner) and just last week they were telling me about this group and also two burglaries in their building. Also,a shovel works faster than the 24th district...PLEASE!

Concerning the dumpster link, this is a perfect example of the type of thing JoMo is supposed to handle. The City has a contract with the garbage companies (paying garbage men $24 per hour!), thus, JoMo, as our elected official, is the liason between the people and the contractors.

JoMo fails again! Goddman I fear he's going to be reelected.

Day 5: No endorsement. Happy New Year Craig. If you dont like the Mooron, why aren't you supporting one of the fine opponents that are running against him.

Day 5: Craig maintains his focus on the real issue: Joe Moore, and refuses to take the bait.

Moore's lackies are doing their darndest to make sure the HellHole devolves into a challenger-on-challenger free-for-all, but Craig won't be fooled.

Only ONE MAN has been at the helm of the ship of state in Rogers Park for 16 years: Joseph A. Moore.

NONE of the challengers has taken a single campaign contribution in return for permits or legislative services.

Only ONE of the candidates is responsible for what you see when you look around.

Day 5, and Craigie maintains his focus on the real issues: Puke on Morse Avenue after New Year's Eve!

Keep up the great work!

This group seems to follow a pattern. Likely when school starts they will be back. Almost like they belong to an after school group and have some reason to gather before taking to the streets.
The guy in the street trying door locks is a sure sign of no good about to take place.
PS. BB it was necessary to bash that guy with a shovel.
He still got away.

Re: the group of kids... yes, they go by the Morse/Wolcott corner quite often, although not in the month and a half. I have heard them yell profanities to my neighbors...etc, when the neighbors complained to them. They do scare me. If they are by our gate, I do not go out.
On another note, we have been burglarized twice in two months - fisrt they bursted 15 storage rooms and stole stuff. Just last month, they came into one of the condos with some of its residents in the unit - it was at night and they did not wake up - but they did get away with things from the apartment. Pretty scary.
Police was notified in both cases, but I have not heard if they found out anything.
Keep up the good work, Greg.
