* Puke in the Rider Lobby
Dear bleeding heart,
I live in the 1345 W. Lunt building and last night someone threw up in the lobby. Sometimes they pee and the lobby stinks of urine too. A sign above the puke in the lobby says the lobby is monitored by camera 24 hours a day. I thought this vomit would have been cleaned up by this morning if someone saw it happen on camera, but it's still there. Now the stinky puke is drying up and it smells real bad in the lobby. My little boy all-most threw up himself just looking at it. When I saw it, I gagged. This is nothing new. Does the management care? I read on this blog and it said we were suppose to have a off-duty police security guard. It doesn't seem like it. Just in case the security camera doesn't work, I took a cell phone picture to show you what we have to deal with everyday. You can post this picture if you want.

Jeff-O is going to have a real fit when he sees this photograph. What's with the poor lighting, where's the warning sign? And you can't even see the texture of the puke.

Reminds me of an invitation to a Jay Johnson building to see the hallways. It was 7700 Marshfield. The post is titled Infinity. Vomit and trash in the hallways.
Also reminiscent of an invitation to the Broadmoor when I started blogging. Brown spot on the hall carpet. These are quality of life issues if this stuff doesn't get cleaned up ASAP
So where were the security people?

These are health safety and child endagerment issues not quality of life.
Renters are legally able to withold rental payments until such violations are cleaned up and should. This blog can be entered as evidence among other media and personal testimonies.
This is a proven method of recourse. Hit these slumlords where it hurts, the balance sheet.
Withhold payment get taken to court and win a judgement against these trust fund slum owning babies. Doesn't someone have some experience in these matters?
RPCC has a representative for such buildings and slumlords. There are several city agencies and a load of red tape and court continuances that take forever to get these owners in order.
It all depends on the owners 'connections' if you get my drift. Then it falls through the cracks again after the owner pays a little fine. With the Broadmoor, the city finally got wise thanks to viewing photos blogged and put IMC-Bill Higginson out of business. However, they're still dragging their feet on the RFP process.
Johnson got fine after fine but nothing more was done. Now six children are dead. But the alderman defended him on every possible media outlet he could get in front of. Had Joe spent that much time in the neighborhood seeing what residents and cameras saw, maybe it could have been avoided. We'll never know. Iraq, foie gras and other worldly issues are more important.
If a place is unhealthy (continual excrimante in common areas) then laws are being broken and the full amount of rent may be withheld. As Margot points out there is a legal process to follow. Simply not paying the rent is not the process. To the honest hard working/ retired people that live at the HH you can withold your rent legally if you follow a few basic rules.
A siginifigant hit on the spreadsheet will bring accountability and change.
