* Man Beaten on Chase in Rogers Park

Dear Craig,

It was a real bad weekend in Rogers Park. On Saturday at about 1:00 p.m., my husband was standing outside of a small unit that we have on 1331 W. Chase. The building has nine units (condo) and we own one. The building needed some repairs. All owners received a love letter from the city. He is a carpenter so he was going to see what he could fix. The building's president and her boyfriend came out and asked my husband what he was doing there. She is quite confrontational and I have never gotten along with her. She is a pretty girl and I have been told that she has many boyfriends.

My husband said he was assessing the repairs and they got into a verbal argument. Then he was blind-sided by a punch to the side of his face. As he tried to stay on his feet the guy came at him again and punched him in the nose. After this, the girl (president) yelled at her boyfriend and he got into his car (a smoke-grey or black Audi) and took off.

The president went back upstairs to her unit. She just left my husband out there bleeding in the cold. My husband tried to all 911 on his cell phone but he couldn't see well because he was dazed and the sun was giving off such a glare. He stumbled to our tenant's window and knocked.

Our tenant's son came out and they called 911. The ambulance showed up and later on so did the police. My tenant led the police to the president's unit. At this point the president told the police officers that she didn't know the man. My tenant became very angry and told the police that the attacker has been coming by there for months.

The attacker was even parked in a private parking spot that the president leases out from the big house next door! He was taken by ambulance to St. Francis hospital. The doctor believes that his nose is fractured. He received a tetanus shot for open wounds, vicadin, etc. My tenant's bathtub was filled with blood.

For the past few months my husband has been working at fine hotels downtown. He can't show up looking like this. I don't think his company would want to be represented like that. I believe the attacker was tall, perhaps Eastern European (Bosnian?) and has a large gap between his front teeth. He should be charged w/aggravated battery and assault.

Please ask you readers that live near Chase to keep a look out for this man. My renter's son just called and said the guy pulled up with her last night and they went upstairs to grab some stuff. He was in a different car last night. This time it was a blue BMW with a plate # 4969456.

Thanks, Craig.

Not to be a stickler, because this is horrible, but one cannot be charged with both assault AND battery on the same person, and "aggravated" means a weapon was used.

The condo president sounds like she should be charged as an accesory in this. Did she perhaps even instigate the attack?

Free Press, Sun-Times join dozens of organizations in Endorsing Joe Moore
Dear Neighbor,

I'm pleased and proud to report that two influential Chicago newspapers - the Chicago Sun-Times and the Chicago Free Press - have endorsed my re-election as Alderman.

The Sun-Times wrote that they "don't agree with criticism that his involvement in progressive causes distracts Joe Moore from difficult issues in Rogers Park. His successes there have ranged from orchestrating capital improvements to building and improving schools."

The Free Press noted the "signs of positive change" in the 49th Ward. "The areas around Morse and Jarvis Red Line stations, once dominated by gang and drug activity, have improved," the Free Press wrote. "And there is finally some promise of lasting revitalization on Howard."

The Free Press concluded that "we believe the city is well served by having Joe Moore on the City Council. He's more willing than most to speak out when the Daley administration needs to hear a differing view, and that's a good thing for all of us. And we believe he's working to keep Rogers Park moving in the right direction."

In endorsing me, the Sun-Times and the Free Press joined U.S. Senator Barack Obama and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky in supporting my re-election as Alderman.

I'm also proud to have the support of the following organizations that represent working men and women and our progressive values:

American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME)
Bricklayers Illinois District Council 1
Change to Win Coalition
Chicago and Cook County Building and Construction Trades

Chicago and N.E. Illinois Council of Carpenters

Chicago Federation of Labor

Chicago Journeymen Plumbers, Local 130

Chicago Police Sergeants' Association

Citizen Action/Illinois

Coalition of Black Trade Unionists

Construction and General Laborer's District Council of Chicago

Democracy for America (DFA)

Democratic Leadership for the 21st Century

Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), Chicago Lodge No. 7

Independent Voters of Illinois-Independent Precinct Organization (IVI-IPO)

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW)

International Union of Operating Engineers, Locals 143 and 150
Ironworkers Union, Local 63

National Organization for Women (NOW), Chicago Chapter

Rogers Park/Edgewater Democracy for America

Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Illinois State Council
Teamsters Joint Council 25

United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), Locals 881 and 1546
UNITE/HERE

WILPOWER (Women's Bar Association PAC)
But the most important endorsement to me will be your vote on Tuesday, February 27th. I hope I can count on your support.

Sincerely,

Joe Moore

The victim did file a police report but the police didn't give him the RD # or a copy of the report. Why would this be?

The North Coast said...

Without the police report, the victim may have problems getting his health insurance provider to reimburse him.

He needs a copy of that report.

He just got back from St. Francis. They had to wait a few days for x-rays because the swelling had to go down. His nose is, in fact, broken.

Has the perp been arrested yet? He has to be close at hand. You should be able to get the condo president, his accomplice, charged as well.
