* The Polling Chef

Here's a guy who puts his money where his mouth is. Chef/Proprietor Didier Durand of Cyrano's Bistro located at 546 North Wells came up to the northside of the 49th ward this morning, working Precinct #6 at Gale School House at 1619 West Jonquil. Durand also held a series of fundraisers for Don Gordon at his bistro.

Durant is upset with Alderman Moore because he passed what Mayor Daley calls the 'silliest law ever' in the ban on serving Foie Gras. The top chef didn't mind spending his day helping the Gordon campaign against the incumbent. He was all smiles.

Blognotes: Despite what Alderman Moore told the Chicago Sun-Times a couple of weeks ago about not seeing any suits working the precincts against him - Alderman Moore is getting hammered from both directions at the polls today. He's clearly outnumbered.

Chris Adams has the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce working the all over and Don Gordon has the top chefs. I'd really liked to have seen Chef Durant in his cooking apron, serving samples of his stuffed goose liver creation.

I'm going to try this again, my core readers think I'm censoring, which I try not to do.

But there are just some jerks that want to ruin it for everyone. Comment nicely or don't comment at all.

I also voted at the Gale school (Precint #34). At 6:45 or so, I was number 10. At almost every corner within a 2 block radius were folks passing out Moore flyers. I also saw a few Adams supporters. Please get out and vote!

I hope we don't get a Chamber of Commerce here. Every time I drive over to use their public cardboard recycling center behind True Nature, it looks abandoned and the box is full.

Also, you won't count me in a precinct today. I voted two weeks ago at 69 W Washington.

I was at Morningside Court for Don Gordon from 6am-8:45am and I'd say we say maybe 20-30 people come from outside, which doesn't count building residents.

Everyone's vote is needed!!!

I voted at Astor House, and I was the only voter there at that moment.

I believe we will get the biggest turnout in the evening. I never worked the polls before, so I don't know how things usually are, but most people in these parts are on their way to work by 7 AM

god, low turnout will mean victory foe JoMo...but look on the brightside, as long as JoMo is in office this blog will survive. Face it craig, JoMo is necessary for this blog's continuing success.

estes/lunt, thanks for the info! i've been trying to see if there are any early inidcations of voting but couldn't find any info. it's making me nervous though. i have a feeling all the people who will vote after work will be joe moore supporters --rich white people working in the loop hoping rogers park will turn into lincoln park...let's just hope he doesn't get the 50%

Looks like we will have a runoff.

I think rich white people don't like slumlords, junk liquor stores, gangs, and drugdealing any better than the rest of us do.

I believe that the influx of newcomers in every ward and income bracket has made Joe's position much shakier.

Joe is no good for anybody of any race, ethnicity or income bracket. He benefits only predators and parasites.

good point.

I can't imagine where WGN got those numbers! The total turnout in 2003 was less than 7,000. If there is that kind of turnout then Joe is in trouble.

I have never heard of votes being counted so early in the day. I am skeptical the numbers are true, although I hope Gordon gets into a runoff with Moore.

Jarvis_smells_like_piss said...

alright it's agreed. estes, we are a bit skeptical of your reporting. i went on wgn's website and i don't see that information anywhere. could you give us a link or something?

Jarvis_smells_like_piss said...

wtf?! how can dorothy brown be that close to daly??

I have a feeling those numbers are just "stand-in" numbers. I find it very strange that Daly and Del Valle have exactly the same number of votes. Also, look how many of the races are 44% to 40%. Plus, I doubt 100% of ALL of the precincts in ALL of the 50 wards have reported.

Jarvis_smells_like_piss said...

i think wgn pulled that information. i can't get back to the page. they probably realized how wrong and misleading it was. f'ing tribune.

I'm pretty much a rich white guy, straight, and I sure as H_ll didn't vote for JoMo.

Jarvis_smells_like_piss said...

ok i should rephrase what i said. i love rich white people. im a young white guy myself. but the people i'm talking about are on the east side of sheridan on albion avenue. those are the ones who don't want change bc they tell JoMo to jump and he asks how high.
