* Alderman Moore Won't Talk (Updated)

Exclusive

This is a message on a pink postcard, sent out to North of Howard residents. Alderman Moore doesn't want to talk about it.

Exhibit A. Conservatives for Don Gordon - allegedly paid for by the Republican Party and Conservatives for Don Gordon - 76XX N. Bosworth, Chicago, IL 60626:

"I'm a property owner and live on the 7600 block of Bosworth. I'm writing to ask yiou to vote for Don Gordon for Alderman. He will make sure our property value is safe by encouraging more ownership not low income housing. Help us get out the Bananas.!!!!!"

BLOGNOTES: Where do I start. First off, I'm guessing we have 'alleged' mail fraud here. It's no wonder Alderman Moore doesn't want to talk on camera. Isn't that a federal offense?

Updated, X-1: Here's a email that is going around regarding the pink postcard.

On the premise tat this postcard is legit, now need I tell you how I will vote?! If I was not convinced to vote for Joe Moore, which I already was, I certainly am more convinced than ever to ensure that Don Gordon does not win.
Personally, I am livid about Michael Harringtpn being involved in such a smear campaign and denigration of renters, low income housing, and people who eat bananas, esp. when bananas are said to b ethe food of monkeys, apes, chimpanzees...and racist stereotypes prevail from the annals of ignorance about Black people, those who have low income, and those low and moderate income people who need affordable housing.
As for property values, I don't think we have any worry about those who take care of their property and those who could us some housing counseling and low interest or equity mortgages causing a decrease in property values.
I guess the demise of Don Imus' show has brought some folk out of the closet.
An alderman who kow tows to Republican Party conservatives--this cannot...will not happen--in Rogers Park, and thinks passing out bananas and is the right image to get votes. If it were a health enthusisat doing this on behalf of veganism, I could see it. Though we have a zoo in Rogers Park, there are no animals in it whose primary diet is bananas.
Let's keep the racial stereotypes and low blows to renters out of this.
Demand an equal playing field regardless of income status or type of housing. Elect Joe Moore.
Love and Peace, Maat

Updated, X-2:

Dear Dr. Ayo Maat,

What you apparently received in the mail is a fake - it was neither written nor supported by Don Gordon or anyone affiliated with our campaign. It is clearly the kind of filthy campaign tactic we have learned to expect from our opponent. We are not at all surprised by this. We have seen this kind of dirty activity before.

Clearly, it is easier for our opponent to smear excrement than defend his 16-year record of neglect.

I am personally disappointed that you would assume for a moment that I would have anything whatsoever to do with such disgusting notions as reflected in the message of the mailing you received.

Peace, Michael Harrington, Chair
Citizens To Elect Don Gordon 49th Ward Alderman

Updated, X-3: It’s now Saturday and Alderman Moore STILL hasn’t contacted this victim of possible mail fraud and identity theft.

Updated, X-4: Passing the buck. Alderman Moore's blog spokesperson, Attorney Thomas Westgard responds with his spin:

"I won't accuse Don Gordon himself of doing this - there's no reason to think he did. My guess is that one of his more radical supporters did it."

Oh, I think you should take his cell phone out of the post right?

This is unreal, but according to what I hear- no surprise.

Jocelyn,

Joe could not talk due to the fact that he was looking at the great lie that his people circulated in the ward.

He got around the corner & out of camera range he probably yelled out...YEA!!!

Little joe sat in the corner stuck his in his thumb, and pulled kevin o'neal out is ass, and said what a smart boy joe is!!

I can't imagine Toni Duncan sending such a postcard, and I really can't imagine her putting her personal adress on it.

That, in itself, is complete proof that it's an absolute fraud.

We could probably smoke out the perpetrator of this hoax by offering a reward of $100 or so. Maybe less, because the Moore campaigners, including the little shmucks passing out the ACORN fliers, are one moneygrubbing bunch of losers.

The North Coast said...

I should have said that the whole Moore campaign is comprised of a bunch of money-grubbing losers, beginning with the Top Loser, Joe Moore himself.

The pattern and behavior in the campaign to date would definitely point to Moore. And the accusation of Gordon doing this would lend some cupability to the accuser.

WONDER WHAT WE CAN EXPECT NEXT FROM JOMO-DOMINCK GIFT CARDS

The North Coast said...

It looks more like an Annie Sullivan sort of thing to me, given the tastelessness of the card.

It's even worse than the ACORN flier, really. The flier merely twisted and quoted out of context, while this is a deliberate and complete fraud.

I don't think so

too much co-ordination, between the ACORN workers, ACORN flyers, and this mailing,

the surrogate attack strategy comes from Moore campaign mgmt

Moore deserves an Academy nomination for his pause as he appeared to read the card in Craig's video

BTW, I think Craig caught the only video or photograph in existence of Moore with his reading glasses on

middle age is hell

I keep hearing Joe Moore referred to as a slick political operator who has ambitions beyond the 49th Ward, even as far as the national level. If so, this doesn't seem to be such a smart move. Joe Moore might be successful operating as a slum boss in Rogers Park where at worst he faces an underfunded and inexperienced candidate but I can already see TV ads on the part of a wealthy opponent with access to a highly talented staff.

Picture this -- while footage of the most dilapidated sections of Morse and Howard scroll by a narrator's voice says something along the lines of "For over 16 years Joe Moore has been the Alderman for Chicago's 49th Ward. Hear what his constituents have to say about him." On comes "Toni" to talk about how her condo building was hit up with bogus code violations after she campaigned for a Joe Moore opponent and how she was the victim of a vicious smear created by Moore operatives.

A search on Google for "Joe Moore Chicago" is going to bring up these blogs and provide Moore's future opponents with all sorts of dirt. The things Moore is doing today could follow him for years to come.

Once again everybody seems to be missing the point. It seems clear that there are some major problems in the North of Howard area; why not discuss the problems and propose solutions in a direct and honest way, instead of getting worked up over accusations and counter-accusations?

I suppose that's too much to ask for in Chicago, though.

Here in lies the BIG problem SE.

If the Alderman can't be honest with his message North of Howard, how are we to have honest discussion about North of Howard problems with race relations and community building?

SouthEvanstonian said...

Craig, I agree. I think fault lies with both the campaigns, though -- neither has been very clear about how they intend to deal with housing, development, etc. Beyond vague platitudes such as "keeping affordable housing" and "preserving diversity" (what IS "affordable"? who pays for it? what IS "diversity"?) neither candidate has been straightforward about how they intend to deal with the crime, gangs, and violence that plague some areas of Rogers Park.

Maybe any potential solutions are too politically charged to be honest about during election season. Any admission that concentration of poverty is not advantageous to the community seems to be met with accusations of being anti-poor and anti-minority. And any discussion of increasing home ownership rates in RP invites the knee-jerk cry that the perpetrator wants to "whitewash" or "gentrify" the area.

With all these nasty mudslinging battles going on, I suppose it's little wonder that neither side wants to make any substantive declarations. It's unfortunate, because the voters are the ones who lose out.

southevanstonian - Frank policy discussions without the mystification that platitudes and coding provide to vested interests on all sides of this issue would be great.

But don't misunderstand. Here's the subtext to putting Toni's home address on this card in this context:
"COME GET THIS LOUDMOUTH BLOGGER BITCH. HERE'S WHERE SHE LIVES."

Premeditated violence doesn't just happen in the movies.

I think a number of people's fingerprints are on this. Agree with John on Farwell on who I'd like to see do some interviewing around here.
