Live Blogging - Breaking News....> We have what looks like a botched bank robbery at the First Commercial Bank at Clark and Morse. It started about 9:40 a.m. Chicago SWATS here. All businesses have been shut down in the surrounding areas. I've heard there are hostages in the bank. Turn on the news now. Discuss.
11:00 AM - Update #1: Channel 7 reports the bank robber has a bulletproof vest on.
11:33 AM - Update #2: F.B.I. is the acting lead agency. No communication has been made with the robber.
Streets block.
Pratt - Ravenswood to Ashland.
Morse is closed at Ashland and Ravenswood.
Clark closed at Pratt.
11:51 AM - Update #3: News helicopters are being pushed from the skies. Now they're backed up to Devon and Damen.
12:05 PM - Update #4: WBBM Channel 2 reports the SWAT teams have stormed the building with shields. Police said 10 hostages were removed and taken to Newfield School, at 1707 W. Morse Ave. just east of Clark Street.
12:40 PM - Update #5: Crime-fighter Joe Moore has arrived on-scene and is now giving T.V. interviews.
1:00 PM: I'm done for now. I'm turning it over to the paid professionals.

i was just sitting in the cafeteria here at loyola, saw a number of police cars as well as forensic units heading north on sheridan, followed almost immediately by a channel 7 news van.. was curious and concerned, but knew i could check the blog to find out what was going on

A co-worker of mine came in my office to tell me she heard about this from someone else in the office. I guessed correctly that it was First Commercial before I looked it up online.
I don't know what it is about that particular bank, but it's been either robbed or attempted robberies have taken place there several times in the past.
What a shame. I work at the Trib and we are all watching this mess on our live feed. Morse is really an awful place now. Thanks for keeping everyone informed.

Seems there are hostages. How horrible. Heart goes out to them and their families.
Hoping for their immediate safe release.
I hope that all the employees, regular people in the bank and police come out of this okay.

Pray that this one does not end the way the one of the south side did last month. That was a tragic loss of a wonderful young man.

News reports say all the hostages are out of the building. Thank goodness for that. Suspect is still inside. Hoping this gets resolved without any injury to anyone.
This is a situation where the alderman should get in front of a news camera right away. When local residents are taken hostage and the community is waiting for news, this seems totally appropriate.

Joe Moore is an idiot. Why would he give out that the Police were in the building? He is grandstanding for the cameras, which might get somebody hurt, or worse, killed. If the robber is still there, you can bet he is watching the TV to see what is going on outside..
Hey Joe, you forgot to mention in your interview how you have successfully reduced crime in Rogers Park. Not a daily thing around here, no siree.....just an armed bank robbery, no biggie, no one was hurt. Thats all.
The open air drug market salemen were rolling a joint right under the Rider building camera at 1340 West Morse and right in front of the SSA janitors at 10:34 AM.
If the Rider building camera was working, it had to have recorded this illegal action.
GUESS JOE MOORE WAS ON THE SCIENE TO SEE IF ANY OF HIS WORKERS WERE INVOLVED- WHAT LSEE IS HE GOOD FOR?
does anyone know if 1) the metra train is still going to stop at the rogers park stop? and 2) if you can still walk down lunt to the morse red line stop?

Bill, interesting point about tipping off the guy inside. Don't the police debrief politicians on what information is okay to give publicly before facing the cameras?

Surely you realize that you are mistaken. The first and last pictures are not pictures of the SWAT Team, they are pictures of the SQUAT Team.
The interesting thing about Joe when he speaks is that he never looks the camera or the voter in the eye. Why is that?

he's too ashamed to face his people b/c he knows hes a lazy no good thief.
