Dear Craig,
I've been lurking on these blogs for a long time; reading, laughing and frequently gagging at what I read. But what's really interesting is the evolution of these blogs. At first there was just you. The big C, like a cancer, grew. It pulled more and more people into its destructive influence.
As the election neared, Ginderske was the first to move in and try to woo YOU for his support and using YOU to insult the opposition and everyone around them--even pulling one on Gordon's daughter!
Then came Mannis: a new blog even crazier than yours.... Toni and Hugh jumped on board the Gordon bus while you was courted by Gordon and what's his name. Now it was a free-for-all! Your fragile ego now dangerously inflated, you see yourself as the king-maker and jumped into bed with Gordon and Harrington. (ooh, SORRY about that image!)
After the first run at an election, things evolved again. Mannis, furious at Ginderske for offering his support to the Alderman, turned on Jim and his team and showed his right wing republican bent.
After Gordon was deposed, finally, most people put the elections behind us, but the blogs kept on. Toni, you and Mannis formed a northside bloggers league, thinking themselves super-heroes who are saving the neighborhood from themselves, alerting us to all dangers real and imagined. But whatever the danger posed, it was ALWAYS somehow Joe's fault!
Craigs band of loonies freely bounced among the sites to support one another's rantings.
But as time went on, I'm sure some bloggers found themselves increasingly alone as readers yawned at the same old anti-Joe hysteria day after day. Voter49 came along to rally the troops but found only Gordon's small nucleus of remaining supporters (and not even Gordon who has turned, not into the beat alderman, but the invisible man!) were left.
Now, Mannis and Toni are nearly commentless-again. Your comments are WAY down and generally they're the same handful of nut jobs who actually believe the guy and a few brave souls who dare to disagree. Mannis is showing his softer side, trying to balance his posts with some actual TRUTH (gasp!). He chides your over-reaction to the gas leak story and even says nice things about DEV CORP!
Your desperation now is palatable. Privately I understand that your whining about not getting any 'credit' for the sale of the building on Morse when what YOU probably really did was make it nearly impossible to sell the damn place with all the bad publicity. And now imagine those poor tenants trying to get a new place and having landlords turn them down because they come from the notorious "hellhole". Will you Craig take credit for that? Yeah, right after Dan Sullivan takes some of those folks into the properties he manages...! (By the way Craig, where are Harry Osterman and RPCAN? I thought you called them in to help these folks!)
But you and Toni have had too much of Gordon's kool-aid. You can't stop beating your sad little drums. What will happen to you when all your fears come true: Morse Avenue revitalized, Howard Avenue quieted, Clark street spruced up, a new Gale Park Community center, a new firehouse, TONS of new businesses, the lakefront paths and tennis courts fixed... Hellhole...? There is no hellhole here. Don't forget guys, that IS Joe's fault!
Signed,
Kevin O.
ps. Did you see the blog I started?
BLOGNOTES: The Broken Heart's 3rd anniversary is coming up. Could this be true? Is the Hell Hole not needed anymore? Should I pull the plug and move on with my life? After this weekend's nasty batch of comments I had to delete, I know I sure got better things to do that take constant abuse for no pay.

Hilarious.
Busts your balls, then unabashedly promotes his blog on yours.
What a tool. Moore or less...
It's never boring around here, that's for sure. I personally rarely comment on Toni's blog because it's very boring to respond with "good post, I agree" every time. As far as the people pushed out of a bad building having trouble renting else where, I personally don't have much sympathy for them. I'm all for cleaning up Morse Ave.
Keep up the good fight. Perhaps tone down some of the unabashedly anti JoMo stuff. The area IS starting to show signs of improvement mostly, in my opinion, despite JoMo, but sometimes with a little help from him as well.
He's a classic politician; trying to please many, pissing off many, and the truth of his believes are hidden, other than he wished for higher office...
Craig, this moron thinks this is a forum, and that you care if whether people take part. Too stupid to know that this is quite obviously a news and editorial blog, and the number of VIEWS better define it's success and popularity. People that live here like to know what is going on in RP. That gas leak the other day? I wouldn't have known a damn thing about it if not for the HH, and I live a block away. As a blogger, you have a right to support whoever you want, and expose Joe Moore for the shitty job that he does. At this point, with Joe going as far away as DC to avoid doing his job, anyone who defends him is embarrassing himself, and likely has a very boring blog. Why don't you guys compare how many views you get?

for the record Toni's blog pre-dates Mannis' by years.

commenting spikes near elections, wow, you're a genius
you would know this if you knew the real history
Yes, you should quit!
Give it up, and move on with that thing you call a life, and give up.
Go rn hat magazine your daddy left you
It seems this "neighbor" is such an expert on all the neighborhood blogs.
I'm guessing it's because he religiously reads all the neighborhood blogs.
The ones he says nobody reads.
Ignore the idiot.
You should quit, move out west and open a duck farm to promote foie gras.
This blog is needed, as well as the others that point out how good the neighborhood could and can be when people work together.
Yes, you're an idiot. You should not only stop blogging, you should walk to the beach, start swimming east, and do your best to reach Michigan.
Scratch that. Try to go through the St. Lawrence Seaway and try to swim to South Africa. Just to be sure of the result.
Again I am not going to tell my age but I have lived here all my life. The ups, and the downs and noone knows the mechanics of the politics better than I. Does anyone remember or give credit to David Orr for bringing nomore into this neighborhood.
I told you so. Does anyone remember that nomore was appointed as a replacement his first stint in office. I thought so!
I love the Blog! I wish I had the impetus to create one myself.
Craig, I idolize you near and far for what you do and my dream is to someday sit down with you and share some of my history of Rogers Park!
Keep up the blog.....take vacations as needed....and remember to always do your best.
With love and affection!

I suppose we'll all just drive our electric cars to our favorite organic, cruelty free restaurants to lift a mug of delicious, alcohol-AND-calorie-free beer in a toast to the end of war, crime, disease and hair loss while hip-hop artists rap softly in the background about innocuous topics such as butterflies and pizza and the newspaper headlines announce the legalization of marijuana, cocaine and heroine as a result of the discovery of an inoculation against the negative effects of all recreational drugs.
Yep, that's what we'll do right after Morse Avenue gets revitalized, Howard Avenue is quieted, Clark street gets spruced up, etc., etc., etc. Of course, when that happens - especially when that happens as a direct result of the hard work and tireless efforts of our current Aldernothing (All-do-nothing?) then we can all buy tickets to the Ice Capades in hell. Right? Then again, when the day comes that any politician makes good on his campaign promises, I suppose the earth will spin backwards on its axis, pipe dreams really will come true and the Cubs will win the World Series.
Go Cubs!
- PEACE -
hey, if it does end up that RP has gotten cleaned up to the point that the Broken Heart blog isn't needed anymore, would that be the worst thing in the world? i would be ecstatic if there was no more crime, drugs or filth in RP.
please, bring on the end of this blog, if for that reason.
bring on feeling safe at night, not wonder if that noise your heard was a gunshot or a car backfiring.
bring on clean streets and clean parks.
bring on booming and successful (and useful) businesses.
make RP the gem of Chicago, as it should be.
i know that if this was my blog, i would be very happy to not have anything to report.
CRAIG- KEEP THE BLOG GOING DON'T LET PEOPLE LIKE LITTLE KELVIN O SCARE YOU OFF-
FOR ME, HAVE LEARNED A LOT ABOUT THE REAL SIDE OF OUR ALDERMAN-
Joe wasn't appointed. Bob Clark was appointed. We will never know how wonderful an alderman Bob would have made - and it would have been wonderful. Same with Don. But we do know how crappy Joe is and get evidence of it on a daily basis. Did you all get the email asking for where sink holes are in the ward? All he has to do is actually drive around - perhaps down Touhy from Western all the way to Sheridan to find many of them. But no - he's is anywhere but in the ward taking stock. Lame is too nice a word for Joe Moore. Saying he sucks is too nice. Keep the blog going. It serves a purpose to inform the public of what is going on. We can all either take it or leave it - like most information out there. You agree or disagree - but in the end a discussion can only be good. I enjoy reading comments from neighbors. I don't enjoy reading personal attacks and useless rants that go nowhere and serve no purpose. On those days - I don't have to comment or read. But over time I have gotten lots of information. Keep it up!
A must read. Tom Mannis covers this story in a way only Mannis can.
Insiders, or those connected to insiders, just hate blogs like broken heart, howardwatchers, etc. because these contrarian sites open the floor for discussion and cause people to get involved. Only those who hate democracy and free speech would want to see them shut down. Insiders don't like it when non-insiders intrude on their party.
Is Craig always spot on? No. Are his postings about Joe sometimes a wee bit over the top? Yes. But he is spot on and gets a round of applause for questioning and probing and opening the floor to debate. Who else is criticizing, looking, asking questions? Where else can the citizenry freely debate and discuss? A politicos' friends and cronies aren't offering us a venue. It is only by independent voices raised loudly that we'll begin to force government and politicos to engage in TRANSPARENT governance. I may disagree with Joe on policy, but just tell me what's going on and don't make me hunt for information.
Speaking of which -- anyone ever wonder where and how the $1 million in menu money that Joe gets to spend on the ward gets spent? Has Joe (or, let's be fair, any alderman) ever disclosed this information to their constituency? Could we please see, without filing a FOIA request (or whatever the Chicago equivalent is) what the money has been spent on and how much various things have cost? If our legislators were interested in accountability, wouldn't they just tell us without having to be asked?
Go hellhole and all the other blogs, even that wretched satan with his twisted picture of Timothy McVeigh. Free speech is one of our most precious rights. A pox on those who want to shut down unfettered speech.
More here.
