I've often thought of trying out Morseland, as their advertising is rather compelling. Too bad the location isn't. Glad you came out of this incident unharmed.
We had already exited and were a few step down the sidewalk. We ran the opposite driection (west) down Morse. If we would have tried going back in, we would have ran towards the gunfire. I lived in El Salvador during the civil war, in East Rogers Park during the 80's and 90's and Humboldt Park after that. Trust me, I know what to do when the bullets start flying. It has become like riding a bicycle to me .... I never forget.
BTW, it has nothing to do with Morseland so no attacks please. This is my second time there and both have been good experiences.
Morseland is a beacon of stability around here, I'm grateful for it. We go a few times a week, probably eat there just as often as we cook at home. I'm not going to avoid it; it's a valued part of my neighborhood.
I'll second Al's comment (I'm his girlfriend). I've been going to Morseland for the last two years, and I've never had any problem walking out of there -- or seen anything that made me at all uncomfortable. (I did witness a fight once on my way home from Morseland, but that was on Sheridan, closer to Pratt.)
For my money, Morseland is one of the establishments making this neighborhood better, and it would be a real shame to see people avoid it because of shots that apparently weren't even fired in the same block.
Glad you guys enjoy Morseland. I think the spot is pretty cool and the wife does as well. Kate Harding is right the shots were not on the same block. The (assuming) shooters were running our direction (west on Morse, the car sped off north on Sheridan but we all know that bullets = bad triggerman will fly south.west, north, east, up, down and very long distances.

Next time, I'd suggest you re-enter the restaurant rather than try to make a run for it.
Seriously, I'm so happy to know neither you nor your wife were harmed.
May your blessings continue throughout the holidays and I hope you continue to patronize businesses in east Rogers Park.
- PEACE -
WONDER IF IT HAPPENED NEAR SOO LIQUORS WHERE ALL THE BROWN BAG DRINKING GOES ON OUTSIDE?
It is in the Morse Hellhole.
What do you expect?

Sorry for the bad punctuations. QWRTY
Go on over to Shitheads, I mean Craigs Favorite Place,
THE HEARTLAND CAFE
The folks at Morseland run a good business. I highly recommend their excellent food.
