• Two women were robbed while walking through the alley on the 7300 block of North Greenview around 11:10 p.m. Dec. 10. The victims, ages 25 and 56, said they were approached by two men who displayed handguns. The older victim was punched and sprayed with an unknown irritant. The robber took $465 cash from the victim, then fled northbound on Greenview and westbound on Jarvis. The victim refused medical attention.
• Two men in their early 20s grabbed a 21-year-old man on the 1700 block of West Estes around 8 p.m. Dec. 8. The men went through the victim's pockets and grabbed his wallet which contained $50 and a Mexican ID.

and chicago homicides, a pretty damn un-massagable crime statistic, reach a 40 year low. gee. maybe crime really is down.
Perhaps Homicides are down... but I'd love to see the statistics of Robberies, Assaults, Home Invasions, Drug arrests, Drive by shootings, Vandalism, etc, etc ... you know... the OTHER Crimes.

we have seen the other stats. index crime has been dropping precipitously for several years. since it is possible, although not probable, that other crimes can be "massaged", for one year or another, homicide is considered the "gold standard" for crime trends.
face it, whatever paranoid visions and perceptions you people may harbor, crime is down. period. fact.

I used to hear a woman who bragged about making insurance claims based upon bogus police reports of armed robbery. Does anyone work as a claims adjuster who knows whether this is/was possible in an insurance policy? It sounded strange.
I'm always amazed at the large amounts of money people seem to lose in robberies. $465 is a hefty load to have on one's person, no matter how much of a high roller you are (or wish to be).
