* Get Your Facts Straight, Joe Moore (Update 4x)

Joe Moore's email blast said....> "Superintendent Weis has selected veteran Chicago Police Sergeant, Steve Caluris, to be the new 24th District Commander."

Blognotes #1: Well, well, well... Joe Moore jumped the gun again. I just got off the phone with News Affairs - and I was told nothing official has been announced.

This leads me to believe Joe Moore gets his news from the blogs like everyone else around here.

a) Because, as of this morning, only Second City Cop blog and the 'Broken Heart' were the only one's reporting this commander change.

b) Joe incorrectly ranked Deputy Chief Caluris as a Sergeant.

c) Every person I contacted with the police department, including News Affairs, said this Official information wasn't to be released yet.

Blognotes #2: Once again, the 'Broken Heart' has Joe Moore jumping through hoops to act like he knows what's going on in his OWN community. But Joe, you did yourself no favors by ranking a Deputy Chief as a Sergeant. Way to start off on the wrong foot with the new guy.

Update - 1:15PM: Now the Sun-Times gets the story. Wonder if they're getting there news from the blogs too? Otherwise, why wasn't this huge story on their cover today?

Update #2 - 5:00 PM: I got another email blast from Joe Moore - but it wasn't to correct his huge Police Rank mistake.

Update #3 - 7:00 PM: You gotta believe our neighborhood is full of a lot of tin-foil hat wearing, dumb fucks. It's not just the idiots who vote with a magic pen either. It's the CAPS tools like Bernard Garbo over at Network 2424 is reporting Joe Moore's mistake - claiming Deputy Chief Caluris as a Sergeant.

Update #4 - 7:30 PM: The Bench reports CAPS BEAT 2411 made the same mistake.

This info was all over Second City Cop yesterday.

Yes it was. And, if you've read the my first post this morning, they got credited for the information in that story with a link up.

Whoa there Craig.
You get props for being on the story first (or second), but there is no need to rip on Bernard. It is people like Bernard, moving into this area and getting involved, as he has done in such an important way that give me a little bit of hope for the 2424 section of Rogers Park-which needs all the help it can get-.
Personally, I think you should apologize to him, or retract what you say about him. It is unwarranted and a bit cruel. He is somebody trying very hard to help bring us forward, and it seems that he rubbed the reporter in you the wrong way. I think he was only trying to share information to his 2424 neighbors.

But nobody, apparently, has told Chief Weis about CAPS or his department's own web site. The CPD's own web site makes no mention of the major changes in the command structure, none that could be found. And there was apparently no email blast to CAPS chapters around the city, which the CPD should have done as a courtesy, at the very least. Source.
