During the closest primary and run-off elections of his career, Moore frequently boasted that all tear-downs and zoning changes are presented to and evaluated by his "community" zoning committee. From Moore's campaign website ("Community Input Key to Decision-Making"):
"Moore established the 49th Ward Zoning and Land Use Advisory Committee consisting of representatives of the major community organizations, business owners, and ordinary neighborhood residents who advise the Alderman on all zoning and land use issues in the 49th Ward. ... When someone comes to the Alderman Moore with a land use proposal requiring special city approval, the Alderman refers the proposal to his committee and asks the proponent to show the committee his or her plans, including building design, landscaping and parking, to be sure that the new project is a positive addition to the neighborhood. ... Notices, including a brief description of the proposal ... are posted on Alderman Moore's web site. ... The Committee will vote to either recommend Alderman Moore support the proposal, oppose the proposal or support the proposal with modifications."On his IVI-IPO questionaire, Moore challenger Jim Ginderske pledged:
"There will no longer be a Zoning Committee which includes non-residents and meets in secret."Ginderske became a "community" zoning committee member immediately after Moore defeated him. (More on Ginderske at The Bench).
Once he was safely ensconced in office, Moore found his sham "community" zoning committee an unnecessary encumbrance on his ability to raise funds by shaping development policy to the desires of campaign contributors. The so-called "community" zoning committee last met in October, 2007, according to Moore's website.

Now that's an interesting find. Is this confirmed? What's the source?
yes, it is confirmed by Moore's website, which states that all meeting notices will be posted, and the last meeting was almost a year ago, you can look it up
wow.
When I read this, it struck me as total bullshit. So I called Moore's office and asked.
Hugh is wrong. Mike Land at his office said the committe last met March 11. He also said the web site hasn't been updated.
oh that Joey-boo-boo....such a classy guy!
Did the meeting for Feb 11 regarding the Wolcott Development get canceled then? It was scheduled, but I don't know if it was actually held, I was out of town.
Michael Land is a Moore stooge. That's what he gets paid to do.
Better put - Michael Land lies and makes money at it.
OK. No disrespect, but, Hugh, did you come to this conclusion strictly from the notion that there is not updated information on the web site?
Is it possible that they just screwed up and didn't update the web site?
Has anyone really confirmed that Joe disbanded the zoning committee?
No disrespect, but there are unanswered questions.
"Is it possible that they just screwed up and didn't update the web site?"
no, it is not possible
It's not possible because during his re-election campaign, Moore pledged that "all meeting notices and brief descriptions of each zoning change will be posted on his website." And Joe is an honorable man.
It's not possible because now we have Jim Ginderske on the inside and he pledge "no more secret meetings." And Jim is an honorable man.
It is inconceivable that these honorable men could "screw up" so badly on something so important.
Therefore the only possible conclusion is that the "community" zoning committee has not met since October as evidence by the website.
I get the point you are trying to make, Hugh. And I agree with it.
But it's a stretch to say Joe has disbanded the committee.
a stretch, huh?
Joe Moore renegging on a campaign pledge...that's a stretch
hundreds of thousands dollars of taxpayer dollars to professionally staff the alderman's office and NO ONE noticed no meeting notices, project descriptions, agendas, or minutes were posted, FOR 6 MONTHS ... that's a stretch
a dozen "community" representatives, our neighbors, on the "community" zoning committee, and NO ONE noticed no meeting notices, project descriptions, agendas, or minutes were posted, FOR 6 MONTHS ... that's a stretch
OOPS! Forget to post the meeting notices, project descriptions, agendas, and minutes, FOR 6 MONTHS, all some kind of innocent mistake...that's a stretch
they've known about this since Monday, and NO ONE has made any effort to correct this...that's a stretch
the "community" zoning committee has been meeting in secret for 6 MONTHS, and Jim Ginderske went along with that?...that's a stretch
no, the only reasonable possibility is that the meeting notices, project descriptions, agendas, and minutes were not posted because they don't exist because Moore disbanded the "Community" zoning committee
