* Something Huge @ 7363 North Damen

I usually don't do this so late, but the scanners giving me nothing - and something big is going on. I'm heading up to 7363 North Damen. The police have the building surrounded and they're taping off the area. They've called in over 10 squad cars to cover this event. The Fire Department HazMat team is on scene. Bomb and Arson has been called to the scene.

CG: here's something that hasn't shown up on the blog. I live in the building on the s/w corner of pratt and greenview. last week someone hopped the fence in the alley and broke down the door to the storage area. made off with a few bikes. today, a neighbor out walking his dog comes back to find more punks hopping over the fence to get back there. he called the cops, they ran before squad arrived. if i see any kid out after 10, i'm calling in a curfew violation to 911. between 'casa de shady' at the other end of the alley (s/e corner of pratt and bosworth) and the apartment building on the w side of bosworth half a block south, i'm sure i'm in for a busy summer protecting my home and my stuff.

Hello Craig. I've been reading your blog for years but this is the first time I've commented. Thank you for all the great info and much needed muckraking over the years. Knowing the 7300 block of N. Damen quite well, I'm posting this to wish you well out there in Stoneville. -JP

It may have been a fire. Two fire trucks, one a hook and ladder, passed down N. Ridge heading in that direction at that time. I was walking the dog, but had no interest in walking further than Ridge and Jarvis.

We just saw some cats out this evening walking west down Lunt. That is, felines. Could it be a stranding?

Look, I don't know, but kids will be kids. Drugs mean fast money to some until an Operation Border Patrol comes to a neighborhood near you. Then, its a Room and Board at Hotel Taylorville, Quality: IDOC.

Two hours later and I'm worn out getting the runaround.

I've got the scoop, but want to have it totally confirmed before I print this tax payer boondoggle.

Plus, there's craziness on Juneway (1700 West) as we speak.

I'm heading to bed. I'll sort it out in the morning.

Sounds like they are busting a meth lab. You didn't mention smoke but you did mention HazMat people.

When I asked the police that very question they flatly denied a meth lab was in the apartment.

I've got my story done - just waiting on a couple triple checking points of information.

I don't know where to post this, but since this entry is active...can someone please make and post a pdf of Joe Moore's letter to the editor in last week's News-Star. I can't find a hard copy of the paper. Thank you! (I can't believe he called it a non-incident.)

Jason - You should report the stolen bikes on the Chicago Stolen Bike Registry. http://stolen.bikechicago.info/

Well, go figure.

The Trib Article reads like Chad 'was' a recreational drug user with an illegal hobby that got out of control. The 'rather cute' or obnoxious looking paraphernalia, seems to have helped seal the deal for Moses, among other challenges. I suppose that this is the week to sing, "Go down, Moses, way Down in Egypt's land. . . ."

Of course, plain view is a reasonable ground to search, but that and probable cause may be a defense attorney's greatest hits, among others. As it is said, tell it to da judge.

Unfortunately, his condo, among other things, is figuratively 'up in smoke' or 'in limbo.' I saw the fire trucks pass down Ridge.

Have they released a photo of the infamous 27 year old Chad Moses, yet? Is he gang related? Apparently, the article has yet to be updated, so it may have been a let down for some journalist.
