* Aronson Gets Snippy With Audience

"Rich Aronson of Camelot Development, Scott Siner of Noble Development and Tom Kafkes of Stage Development will be on hand to present their proposal to build a seven-story building containing 50 dwelling units, 50 parking spaces and commercial space on the first floor. The developers plan to incorporate a number of green features in the building, including a small wind turbine on the roof."
Rich Aronson needs to work on his people skills. Last night at a community meeting for a proposed hi rise, Aronson got all snippy with the audience. Why?

* The number one issue on the table was lack of parking. Everyone who lives around the project who voiced their opinions mentioned "lack of parking" as the first and foremost concern. Aronson's 'song and dance' routine about his lame parking plan wasn't going over so well. That's why Aronson got all snippy with the crowd.

* Joe Moore told the crowd of over 100 residents Michael Land would take copious notes. What they'll do with the notes is unknown. As the Alderman's zoning portion of his website doesn't work.

* The new 2008 development catch phrase. Rick Aronson must have used the word "Green" 100 times - as to tell us how environmentally friendly the building will be. As he thought this was going to be the key selling point to the crowd.

* Mumbles could be heard through the audience on how tiring it was to continue to hear "green this" and "green that" after the audience blasted his project. One person whispered, "the only thing green Aronson and Moore care about is money."

* With the exception of Joe Moore's planted audience members (Swanette 'The Asbestos Lady' Triem, Michael 'I'll do whatever Joe tells me' Glasser, Connie 'I want a hi rise too' Abels and Jimmy 'the follower' GInderske) no one was buying this project.

You didn't need a straw poll to figure out which way the community felt. 3/4's of the room was overwhelmingly against this project. You could tell how the audience felt by the clapping after a question was asked either 'for' or 'against' the project. If someone criticised the project, the room erupted in applause. When the 'Asbestos Lady' spoke in favor of the project, only Glasser, Ginderske and Abels clapped.

* Rich Aronson was so arrogant with the community about building this project, he sounded like Mayor Daley. Community be dammed - he owned the land and he and his investor buddies are going to do what they want to do. Given the fact Aronson contributes major campaign dollars to Joe Moore - given the fact Aronson is part of the "Good ole Boys' Secret Zoning Club - this project will surely get it's zoning change. With or without the communities support.

"Make no mistake, Connie Abels is testing the waters on the Lakefront Protection Ordinance, while other bigger shots wait in the wings. Once they find Alderman Moore's tolerance for re-zoning, the paid informercial/community meetings won't be far behind. "

Will the new building bring (sorely needed) law-abiding residents with disposable ("green") income to this area of RP?

If so, perhaps the development is not such a bad idea.

As for the parking issue . . . what with Peak Oil and gas costs as they are, perhaps parking won't be a big issue five years from now, as only rich people will be able to afford to own a car and drive it.

yeah parking should be a non issue
If Rogers Park citizens are so "green" why are they complaining about parking?

I have seen that Rogers Park isnt as earth friendly as it may want to be, condo conversions result in the throwing out of perfectly good doors into dumpsters!

plenty of still useful items i rescue from alleyways in Rogers Park

Funny how Aronson kept preaching "Green" - yet Aronson wants to run a valet service for the restaurant and park the cars a mile down the road.

Can you imagine the huge "carbon footprint" left behind from the valet service every night of the week they drive these cars back and forth for the customers.

I remember at a community meeting about the Pinewood development, when Aronson saw it wasn't going his way, he started shouting at the neighbors that he had a RIGHT to his zoning variance

Watching Joe's puppets standing in back you couldn't help but think how they wished they could be home watching 'American Idol' instead of watching Joe take a community beating.

i dont get footprint,
are there giants smashing houses or something

how about plain english?
for example can you imagine the green house gas emissions that would result from such and such an action,
how about that?

instead of silly media jargon.

im all for keeping the earth a place viable for human and all other life, Im not for saving the planet, because its not as if it will care when we are gone the Earth will just give a huge sigh of relief,

valet is a service that hopefully will mean less and less esp with high gas prices, but is a necessary thing at times, cant see this valet thing as the tipping point to a new ice age or ice melt

Aronson pontificating on democratization of the lakefront was really a hoot and probably the definition of irony.
