Rainbow, the Hippie Grifter, has been evicted from his lake front apartment. The eviction happened sometime yesterday after anonymous sources said Joe Moore's Beach Zoning Committee denied his application for permanent summer residents. The confidential source said Jim Ginderske was the deciding vote (6 to 5) to cancel Rainbow's Sand Castle permit.

When I published this story last week about the dozens of Alderman Integrity Fliers seen around the neighborhood, my close source said Joe Moore was absolutely furious. Joe blew a gasket. Barb and Nathan Moore were pretty mad too. I'm told they sent their little puppets to go take them all down, immediately. Word has it Nathan even had to go out and tear them down or he wouldn't get his weekly allowance.
Multiplying like Rabbits


Joe's neighborhood puppets followed orders, but left many illegal fliers behind. Here is one such business that protects Joe Moore -- and they in return were protected by Joe's minions.

Matthew Bowker, owner of Morseland and commissioner for Special Service Area Street tax 24 knows this is totally illegal. Yet. he gets away with this illegal fliering action.
City of Chicago Code - 10-8-320: Posting bills.
1. No person shall post, stick, stamp, tack, paint or otherwise fix, or cause the same to be done by any person, any sign, notice, placard, bill, card, poster, advertisement or other device calculated to attract the attention of the public, to or upon any sidewalk, crosswalk, curb or curbstone, flagstone or any other portion or part of any public way, lamppost, electric light, traffic light, telegraph, telephone or trolley line pole, hydrant, shade tree or tree-box, or upon the piers, columns, trusses, girders, railings, gates or parts of any public bridge or viaduct, or upon any pole box or fixture of the police and fire communications system, except that the city may allow the posting of decorative banners in accordance with Section 10-8-340 below.
2. There shall be a rebuttable presumption that any person, business or entity whose goods, services, activities or events are promoted by a sign is a person who posted it or caused it to be posted
3. Any person violating any of the provisions of this section shall be fined not less than $10.00 nor more than $50.00 per pole for a first offense, and not less than $50.00 nor more than $200.00 per pole for any subsequent offenses.
4. In addition, any person violating any of the provisions of this section shall be liable to the city for the cost of repair of any damage caused by the hanging, presence or removal of any such sign and for any and all claims arising out of the hanging, presence or removal of any such sign, including any claims relating to signs or the structures upon which they are hung falling on people or property. (Prior code 36-30; Amend. 7-31-96, p. 26980)
I asked the other owner Gregory Altman about this. He claimed not to know a thing until I showed him all the illegal fliers his business had posed on the city light posts. Gregory Altman played dumb and passed the buck. He said it was a promoter. He said he'd get them all taken down and not hire the people who did this again.

Gregory lied too. Since we talked about this illegal flier issue, the fliers have multiplied and now cover over 100 light poles though-out the neighborhood.

How "green" is that? If Joe Moore were SERIOUS about having the "Greenest Ward" in the city, he'd get this material waste removed off his light poles. But that won't happen because the "green" campaign is nothing more than a smokescreen to divert the community away from the crime issue. Or the Morse Avenue Streetscape issue. Or the Aronson rezoning issue. Those important Issues Joe Moore continues to remain silent on.

If the city that actually worked, worked, they would fine this business the maximum penalty under law. That would generate extra revenue. But you know they won't. These guys are protected by Special Service Area tax #24 commissioners. Which one of the owners sits on the board of commissioners.

Not only that, they give.

Did you know: There's a full-blown open air drug market working right next to Michael Jame's residence in the 1500 block of West Lunt. Right across the street from the 49th ward committeeman, David Fagus's condo.

My thoughts. Better there than next door to my house. Let them deal with it.

Wonder how 'Pay to Play' Works?

Gregory Altman and Matthew Bowker of Wellington Mortgage Corporation had worked for months to open a new supper club at 1218 Morse, to be known as the Morseland. Unfortunately, in late September 2003 the two got the word that the Liquor Commission denied their application ostensibly because of opposition from a nearby residential high rise occupied by
senior citizens.

But all is not yet lost. Greg and Matt do not intend to let this setback in their efforts stop them. With full support from 49th Ward Alderman Joe Moore, they plan to file an appeal for the license to a higher court.

Groan, re-the fake Tom Westgard comment.

I've too high a hurdle to suddenly get bent out of shape about Morseland, regardless of them being the focus of the blog hatred of the week/month/whatever. I just can't bring myself to care.

FWIW, I would actually suspect that Morseland is telling the truth about the fliers being put up by promoters (or bands) instead of the bar. I was involved in a similar scene in Minneapolis (record production/band promotion) in a small way and that was pretty much how it worked.

It's just my opinion, mind you, but I really believe you guys need to back off of Morseland. They invested millions to bring a much needed venue to a street that local leaders allowed to deteriorate and where nobody else was investing. They run a nice business and are nice people.

And they did all of this IN SPITE OF Joe Moore, rather than with his help. You know very well that those guys are not toadies of our alderman or anyone else.

They've made obligatory donations to our little Joe Napoleon, because they pretty much have to if they expect any kind of support from the ass hole. They also have managed to stay out of neighborhood bullshit.

As for the flyers, I have to agree that the promoters do these things, not the owners, managers or shift workers.

I'm sorry they had a beef with bloggers photographing their customers, but who wouldn't? Tom Mannis is still just pissed at them because he was in the wrong and isn't big enough to admit it.

I hope you guys don't take a similarly negative approach to the folks who are making a similar multi-million dollar commitment to our neighborhood in the form of the Morse Theater and Century Public House.

Perhaps there is some sense in picking one's battles. Let's support the folks who invest in our community, please.

I agree. My take on Morseland is that it is something nice that went where nothing was before. When I first moved here, it was the first place I found that was open and welcoming and not a dive hole. It's a beacon of light on Morse, compared to all of "the troubles" a few blocks west.

Is it perfect? No. Do I love everything about it? No. But I do agree with RogersParker that aiming the "hate on of the week" in their direction is a waste of effort, and is poorly considered.
