* Crime is Up. Police Manpower Down

Reports from Second City Cop reports sounds like Chicago is having Police manpower shortage issue.
"Everything we've seen and heard suggests we were short at least 300 cops last night..... Taxpaying citizens went without police protection so there wouldn't be a repeat of last night's debacle. The numbers we heard we're one sergeant and four officers per district plus the Tact teams, TRU and a few inside people." Source.
From all the reports I'm getting, (even from Las Vegas) we know the downtown Chicago area has become gun fire central this 4th of July weekend. How was Rogers Park last night? Let's hear some citizen reports.

My immediate neighborhood, Pratt & Sheridan, only SOUNDED like a combat zone, just an incredible number of firecrackers & roman candles & other stuff being set off.

I didn't bother to call, even though I really hate the noise, as I consider it a waste of scarce police manpower to go after fireworks when so many people are shooting guns, especially on fourth of July. If the little buggers want to blow their fingers and hands off, it's their problem.

I don't know what was going on further north.

I get dizzy when I try to figure out the number of hours our elected Politicians spend on drafting laws that are never enforced. What happen to the one that states Fire Works are against the law in Chicago, or the one that states you can not ride a bike on the sidewalk if you are over twelve years of age in Chicago, or the one that states you can not block traffic in Chicago? Every morning when I travel Sheridan Road to Lake Shore Drive on my way to down town, traffic is stopped numerous times between Devon and Lake Shore because there are numerous delivery trucks blocking the street, even when most buildings have circle driveways where these delivery trucks can pull in and park while delivering their goods, yet they choose to block the traffic and cause headaches for people just trying to get to work on time. What happen to the "All DELIVERIES IN THE REAR" law? These laws are a joke. I can't even step out of my building with out being run down by a seventeen year old gang banger flying down the sidewalk on his gangster bike, and some of the fireworks that were fired off last night were more like bombs instead of sparklers. They were setting off fire works that shook my building for over two hours last night which was plenty of time for the Police to enforce the law. Instead of picking on the working person and raising taxes on my hard earned salary, why don't they just do their jobs and give these law breakers a citation for breaking the laws that they passed but do not enforce. The city would collect millions and Daley and Stroger would be happy and their relatives could all get a big fat pay raise... "UNREAL"

I'd rather repeal a few laws, or a few THOUSAND laws, so that the police can go after real criminals- people who murder, assault, steal, defraud, vandalize, invade, and otherwise violate the rights of and threaten the lives, safety, and property of law-abiding citizens.

NOW, we have laws against smoking on the beach, on the dubious grounds that the cigarette end litter cost the park more money. Never mind the beer cans and DIRTY DAIPERS I routinely pick up and dispose of whenever I spot them.

What's next- no babies allowed on the beach, because some people are pigs?

We could repeal most of the drug laws while we're at it, and demotivate a major class of criminals thereby. But we'd rather create more black markets and gray markets (like for cheap cigs and fireworks)>

This Department is seriously undermanned, almost to the point of endangering the city. They are not hiring enough Officers to replace those that retire. Don't believe the 13,000 number that we constantly see in the press. We are nowhere near that number. They are robbing Paul to pay Peter and one day this slight of hand will come back to haunt this city. They do not have enough manpower to cover things like the Taste or neighborhood street fairs or festivals and still maintain District coverage. They are stripping the Districts of Officers and sending the Officers to those events. Three times this week alone I was sent to another District for some type of neighborhood festival or the Taste. Which is one of the reasons for the lack of response for certain calls like fireworks. We will soon be responding to only the most serious calls that are in progress that involve threats to persons. Property crimes or quality of life issues will be put on the backburner. Routine patrol in an effort to be proactive is a thing of the past. These Officers are for the most part, responding from call to call. And don't even think of blaming Joe Moore. This problem goes right to the doorstep of our beloved mayor.

What will it take to unseat our fat, corrupt moron of a mayor?

In my dreams....a groundswell of anger at reduced services, increased taxes, failing schools, and crumbling infrastructure side-by-side vanity spending on crap like the Olympics, the express rail to the airport, the outer-drive extension, the airport expansion.. on the part of the citizens, who are up against a wall trying to stay in their overtaxed homes and put food on the table and get to work, what with our formerly fine transit has been reduced to.

But it's a dream. I'm very sorry to have to report this, but the bald, ugly fact is that the bulk of the Amerikun sheoples are a mob of authority-worshiping cretins who go to the polls to elect their dadda-and-mamma figures, not to appoint people with capabilities to the job in question.

They want to worship. They want to just BELIEVE. They want model mamma-and-dadda figures, and they're not capable of judging how well the job is done. If they're suffering, just deflect the blame to "da liberals" or "da conservatives".

And they worship that fat little Irish-Catholic moron with his cuddly teddy-bear act, feigned innocence, and his very real determination to decimate the citizenry and deliver everything they own into the hands of his rich cronies. Who the fuck cares about police protection and stratospheric crime rates in Rogers Park, Logan Square, Wicker Park, Uptown, as long as Loyola gets $50 MM worth of tax funded buildings, and as long as the big box stores get tax breaks worth $40 million dollars to decimate the local business base? Who cares about the transit, about the 3rd-world el stations and exposed rebar on the Red Line- what matters is that a handful of tourists and rich businessmen have an express train to O'Hare.

North coast, for once we agree on something. But your wrong about one thing. This city does not exist for the rich businessmen. This city exists for one thing and one thing only. That is to enrich the coffers of the mayor and those connected to him. That's it. As far as crime goes, all he cares about is the 001st district, the 018th district and the airport. That's it. As long as things are swell there, everything else is unimportant. Oh, when he feels the ground surging up against him he will get his cronies to sponor an "anti violence, anti-gun or anti-gang" march which in reality is nothing more than a political march. He will make an appearance, walk a few blocks and watch the sheep as they get all excited because they met the mayor. And then they will fall for his bs and re-elect him and the other do nothings.
