Attention Ohio State Alum - Help Needed

Anyone know anything about the Schottenstein Center located on campus at Ohio State University? That's where this weekends AMA EnduroCross is being held. I'd like to know where's a good place to have a decent dinner and a few drinks. It's not all racing, ya'know. Did any 'Broken Heart' readers go to OSU?

I did not attend THE Ohio State University but I was there in 2005 for Illinois basketball (our only loss before losing to North Carolina in the title game).

The Schottenstein Center is a pro-like arena, reminds me of the United Center.

I would visit High Street for nightlife (two good microbreweries there). For dinner, we went to the German Village area for very good German food.

High Street is definitely the place to go. The Schott is on Lane Ave. Take Lane Ave east to High Street, then turn right (south). The first 10-12 blocks are bars and restaraunts. One good option is Eddie George's place(Grill 27), at the corner of Chittenden and High. Chittenden is either before or after 11th ave. If you go another 1/2 mile south, you'll come to Short North. It has a bunch of pubs, restaraunts, cafes, art stores, etc... Hope that helps!

I did attend OSU and grew up in Columbus. I would say that High Street is a good catch all for the campus area (Chipotle, Subway, Wendys and some coffee shops) or keep going towards downtown (south) on High St. to the Short North district. GREAT restaurants and bars. Betty's and the Surly Girl are two personal faves (by the same owners.

German Village is awesome just for a walk, or a drink at Club 185 or a burger at Max & Erma's...

Finally, just west of campus is the Grandview Heights neighborhood which is also really great for walking around.

And be sure to visit Jeni's Ice Creams! http://jenisicecreams.com/

The Schott sits kind of isolated from the rest of the campus, but a few blocks east across the Olentangy is the Thirsty Scholar (corner of Neil and Lane), a favortite hangout both as a student and now when I go back for football games.

They've spiced up the southeast end of campus. Eddie George's is worth stopping by.

Saturday night the Bucks play at Wiscy, so be prepared for a packed bar with a drunk crowd regardless of where you go. Most bars around campus permit entrance to anyone 18+, so if you're goal is to avoid trashed freshmen kids stumbling and puking around you, consider heading further south to the Short North or the Arena District.

If you start to miss Rogers Park, wander around the university district east of High Street by yourself. You'll feel right at home when someone mugs you at gun point.

Thank's for the tips, everyone. This weekend I've convinced Patrick to race. So I'll have a minor on the team and those crazy clubs will be off limits.
