Female Shot on Morse Avenue

Attention all females. If you think Morse Avenue is safe at night or early morning - think again. This morning at 5:45 AM, a female was shot in the leg at Morse and Lakewood by some unknown offenders, who fled east in a car. Witnesses describe hearing five shots total.

This is a mere block from the new Morse Theatre and Reside on Morse apartments in the 1300 block of West Morse Avenue.

The female who was shot kept repeating, "Oh no.... I can't believe I was shot!" Well, at 5:45 AM in the morning, I can.

Blognotes: While Joe Moore continues to keep his head buried in the sand on ward issues - this marks the umpteenth shooting in Rogers Park this year. Four shootings have led to death. No arrests have been made in any of the murders.

ok - well that's scary - that's pretty close to me. I was going to say I'm not on Morse at 5:45 am but I do sometimes take my dogs out early. There are some real creeps that hang out at the building at end of street - grown men that should have jobs and not just be sitting around during the day. I guess those are the "affordable housing" people Mr Moore likes to support

I live at North Beach Lofts and was woken up from the shots fired this morning. I was amazed that I did not hear any sirens after the gun shots ended. Half of my windows that face Morse were open, so I was expecting to hear the wailing of police or EMT.

When I left for work at 7:40, one unmarked Crown Vic was parked at the corner of Morse and Lakewood. Two officers were walking around the parked cars on the South side of Morse between Lakewood and my condo building. Driving past the corner, I did not see any police tape or any other police vehicles. Is this now consider a common occurrence, as would be smashed window or stolen car?

Our posters get Moore's attention, but gunshots don't.

He is a politician, not a leader.

Joe, there were about 5-6 squad cars at the scene within 2-3 minutes. I assume that the police heard the shots and swarmed the scene. I live on Lakewood and so my husband and I went out to see what happened.

The police were looking around for shell casings with flashlights etc... They did their job. This morning detectives showed up to investigate also.

The shots woke me up-my friend and I were in disbelief. He asked if they were gunshots and I said yes and that I'd heard them before when I stayed at Hoyne and Jarvis years ago. I didn't hear any police sirens nearby following the sound of gunshots.

By chance today I happened to be in the company of Rogers Park police officers following the removal of property belonging to my (former) roommate who failed to pay rent. I asked them about the shooting and they said that the girl who was shot was most likely affiliated with a gang. They said that she refused to answer questions which would help police identify the shooter. There was an eye witness who was also reluctant to comment. The police told me that most often when this occurs between gang members that they choose to keep the dispute between themselves and involve police as little as possible. I asked the officer if perhaps she was scared to talk because she feared further retaliation. The officer replied, "Today's victim is tomorrow's perpetrator."

I can see the perspective of the officers who have to deal with these types of crimes, but if I was shot by someone I knew for any reason, I may have some reluctance to talk out of fear. If I saw it, and they saw me- I also wouldn't talk. Witness protection my ass, especially if I live down the street! It's a shame and I really hope she is ok- no matter what the reason, the hate, desperation, confusion- whatever the problem is- I hope it will stop. That is the end to violence- treating people, not putting up a bunch of flashing blue lights.

Its all gang related crap.
I have lived in this neighborhood since 1976 and see it not improving much.

I am also sick of the low life gang related "low income" housing junk that roams on Morse. Moore - don't you want to clean it up and make it nice??? Get the loitering drug dealers off the blocks - put up the flowers and trees I have been reading about for 2 years. Morse Theatre is going to be so nice - let's give it a chance by removing the scum that wander down the street. Take a walk over to Logan Square - you don't see drug dealer, junkie, gang bangers hanging around - they have removed all that trash!!!

...drive by victim still living, how unfortunate, looks like we will be paying the public aid bill for this low life.

Here's an idea...tax payers should not be responsible for paying any medical/trauma unit/ER gang related incidences. Why should we pay for the dumb shit choice they made in life??

Next idea is that any family that is on public aid or subsidized housing should undergo mandatory drug and excessive alcohol testing, if any member tests positive, the family is denied benefits.

Great way to save on my taxes.

2good - I'm all for the testing idea - let's gather up the grown men that wander the streets during the day or hang out at the park and throw them in jail or they can get a job. I don't see any Section 8 housing next door to Mr. Moore - or it doesn't look like there is any on his street. I think he should live with them for a year or so and then see if he loves it so much.

2good4u2 & razldazlrr - Yes, grown men wandering the streets- so where are all the baby mamma's? ...and the babies?

If a person applies for public aid they have to list all of the members in the household who are receiving benefits. So if you're in a common law marriage situation (after 7 to 10 years of co-habitation) the woman and kids should be denied benefits because the man is drunk on Morse? To suggest something like you're describing is impossible. People are always going to abuse public aid- if you're so pissed off why don't you apply?

Or better yet, let's have officers visit the homes of all white collar upper middle class workers and take a breathelizer of them at 10pm randomly- you actually think that only poor people drink? The rich are the ones floating down from Evanston and Wilmette to buy the good shit! Fresh for the picking between Loyola and Northwestern- why not drug test college kids, I mean we already know that they drink!

Police state- I like it!
