Let's Watch Each Other's Back

It's cold out there, people. If you've got a neighbor that may be vulnerable, check on them. Watch those space heaters too. Don't put them too close to anything flammable. If you're old school, and got that oven door open at 475, keep the kids from getting too close. Trust me on this one. I know first hand. And please, Cota says keep her 4 legged friends bundled up when they go outside.

Let's watch each others backs in this outrageously freezing weather.

It sure is cold outside, but it's sort of ending tomorrow, with a high of 24 tomorrow (which is like 50 degress to me considering today's tempatures, LOL).

My mother checked on an elderly neighbor today and she were okay. We've also had someone to check on us.

Hope you're keeping warm at home, Craig. This weather has been insane, LOL. Have a good night.

"How cold was it?"

"It was so cold I saw a politician with his hands in his own pockets."

Don't get the kids too close to the oven? How about don't use the oven as a heating device? Or make sure your carbon monoxide detectors are working? I know you want Joe Moore to perish -- do you want your readers, to, also?

Kudos to the Chicago Police and Fire Departments!! While walking this morning, I saw smoke and flames coming from the vacant tire store on Howard at Bosworth. Within a minute or two of calling 911, the police had the street blocked off and the fire department was on the scene dousing the flames. Chicago Streets and Sanitation are at the scene now spreading salt on the street.

Craig is simply cognizant of the reality of many folks in this city when he advises them to be careful how they heat the place with ovens.

I don't do this and I don't need to do this, but for some unfortunate folks, it's the only alternative.

I could add: Do not, not, NOT use a kerosene heater indoors- nothing will burn your house down faster.

Watch it with the wood-burning stoves and fireplaces. No more than two logs in the fireplace at a time. Make sure your stove is properly installed and make sure your fireplace flu is clear.

If you have a forced air furnace or gas stove, make sure your carbon monoxide detector is working.

And always make sure your smoke detector is in order.

There are other things we can do to care for our neighbors ....... such as clean a parking spot of snow completely. If everyone did, then we wouldnt have parking spots with ruts and frozen mounds. We would all have a snow/ice free space to park in. Im 60 years old with a heart condition but yet shovel out my car after a snow fall only to move my car and return to find it taken. NO I dont claim it as my spot but Ive cleaned a spot for you so how about cleaning a spot for me. Tomorrow I will clean spot number 3, just so I can pull my car out. And BTW thanks to all you help push me out of some spots that I couldnt pull out of.
