Unknown Disturbance at Sullivan

2:58 PM: The police are having trouble controlling the students at Sullivan Fight School. They've called for back-up. It's not clear what's going on, but it sounds like one officer is struggling with someone while calling for back-up.

3:03 PM: One kid is trying to kick out the window of the squad car. Police have asked for the wagon to haul the unruly offender to lock-up.

3:07 PM: Dispatch says a female is being held hostage. She's tied up and being held in a bookstore at Granville and Broadway.

3:12 PM: Heritage Book Store (1135 West Granville) is closed. False alarm on hostage situation.

3:13 PM: Police call for a gang dispersal in the 1400 block of West Morse.

3:17 PM: Back to the caller of the 3:07 PM alleged hostage situation. Now the caller states her daughter, who's being held against her will, is invisible. That's right. She invisible. And the CIA is in the back room watching her. No folks, I'm not making this up. If you don't believe me, ask our new commander to send out a press release with the 911 transcript tapes. He's good at that stuff.

3:24 PM: Another gang dispersal. Moving 2 gang members from 1625 West Howard to another location of their choosing. Event #09920.

I most likely know who the kid resisting arrest is, but I won't share his name over the internet out of privacy. Email me if you want to know. I'm not surprised at his actions, though. He's a real bid kid.

Howard Wamu to close in February?

I received two letters from Wamu informing me that branches that I used to bank with or bank with currently are being merged. This is happening very quickly with the two branches being closed on the 11th and 16th of February.

Rogers Park currently has two branches; one on Morse and one on Howard Ave. If I was a betting man Id say that the one on Howard is going to close, since it gets little foot traffic. But I could be wrong and the Morse branch might close instead.

It not good for either street. If the Howard Branch closes, its just a further sign of Howard St's retail deterioration and if its Morse, well that might just stall gentrification on Morse further, imho.

Obviously Moore and his cohorts can be blamed for this, but what is the Alderman and DevCorp North going to do to replace the branch thats closing with new business?

The WaMu branches are closing because Chase bought them and doesn't need them. But hey, if it makes you feel better to blame EVERYTHING on Moore, go right ahead.

Well first them will balm the bloggers, then joey will send bullshit e-mails laying out some grand plan that of course will never come to be. Then either some crappy stoe will go in or it will sit empty, which will cause joey & dev corp will once again blam the bloggers for the empty store.

Chase is closing 75 WaMu branches throughout the region, in the next couple of months. I'd be really surprised if one of these two branches doesn't close.

Seeing how many Chase branches there are already, I'd be surprised if Chase didn't eventually end up closing all the Wamu branches before this recession is over.

Three steps forward, two steps back.
Two steps back:
WAMU closing branches, not so bad really. Banks do not generate sales taxes.
Two steps forward, New Fire Station, and the Math and Science Academy taking the "mega mall" for their new location.

OK, neither of those entities generate taxes either, but are still very good developments for the North end of Clark Street.

Also, it sounds as if the Gateway/My Place For/Amphora space has been sold or leased (they have been attempting to sell the restaurant for over 2 years) to the Leona's group for a pub and grub concept they are developing. That's unfettered GOOD news!

Part of the problem is that most of the new architecture in the Howard area is ill conceived. It is cold and disorienting. Even the new El stop seems like something from a hard souless future.
