Too many small McBanks around. They're as bad as Starbucks and none of them have any real security. What happened to big, majestic banks like the Broadway Bank, high ceilings that had at least one armed guard there. These small mini-banks are like robbing a Dunkin Donuts.
Except "Man On The Street": Devon Bank on Western is a real bank building. It was built to replace the old building on Devon, east of Western in the days before branch banks were allowed in Illinois.
And the Broadway Bank was built as a car dealership!
HERE IS WHAT I THINK, SCREW THE GOD DAMN BANKS, THOSE GREEDY MOTHERS ARE THE ONES THAT HELPED GET US IN THIS MESS. ROB THE HELL OUT OF THEM. GOOD JOB
THEY ARE JUST MAKING A LOAN, JUST LIKE THE ONES THEY TOOK OUT 3 OR 4 YEARS AGO, NO CREDIT CHECK, NO SALARY VERIFICATIONS. SCREW ALL OF THE BANKS, AND ROB THOSE BASTARDS
LOL
Why aren't are alderman packing steel and preventing all these bank robberies.
Hey Joe Moore, Mary Ann Smith, Bernie Stone and Pat O'Conner would make one hell of a posse chasing dem der bank robers.
There's good money in bank robbing. I'm just sayin'
Sock...
You're right. the Devon bank is a bit more substantial than the tons of smaller mini-banks that keep popping up here and there. And I meant the Bridgeview Bank on Broadway and Lawrence, not the Broadway Bank across from Dominicks. My mistake.
But I still hate those mini-banks. Thank god for direct deposit. I could never walk in there with cash or anything to deposit.
The smaller independent banks, such as Devon Bank DID NOT GET ANY of the TARP money. It's the big shots (Bank of America and the like) that are the real robbers. In my opinion, people should dump the big banks and stick with their community banks.
Agree with the last comment. While the smaller community banks have defaults on their books, they are not leveraged 75X in derivatives and structured debt, and are far less likely to have real problems.
Broadway, Bridgeview,Devon, and North Community are not having these problems. While they've been stuck with some large bad loans, they're solvent and able to get past this.
And, among major banks, Harris is so far in good shape from what I'm hearing, even though it no longer qualifies as a local institution, being owned by the Bank of Montreal.
There are many solid community banks remaining across the country. It is criminal to toss trillions of TARP$$$ and other bailout dough at failing institutions, when so many good ones remain, that could pick up the bad assets at pennies on the dollar, as well as the customers, of failing banks.
This would have happened if we had ONLY protected depositor's money up to any amount, and let the rest just fall down, which it's doing anyway.
