I got back to Rogers Park, from work, just before midnight. As I drove home, I saw at the end of the block of Greenleaf and Greenview the flashing lights of a police car. My first thought was that someone got pulled over, but as I got closer I was shocked to see multiple police cars, (marked and unmarked) and police tape all around the 4 corners of G & G. I pulled into an alley to go around but noticed that Greenview was taped off at the northern end at Lunt. I found an opening at Ashland and Lunt, drove down to Greenleaf and parked my car. As I walked home I talked to man who said there was car driving 60mph down Morse and I'm not sure if he said it was being chased or not, but at some point it hit a woman (possibly in her 20's, and that she died.) A man was seen screaming frantically, possibly family or friend. The suspect driving the car was caught. I don't know how much of this is true, but a police officer said that someone died tonight from being hit by car. I saw the blood spilled on the corner of Greenview and Greenleaf, and I am horrified to hear about this. To the person who lost their life, please be at peace, and to the victims friends in family, my heart goes out to you. I don't know all the details, and what I was told could be inaccurate, but this really gives me the chills....
Especially glad to hear they caught the a-hole. Too many of these thugs have been manager to slip away lately.
I saw the end of the chase: before nine, I was riding my bike west on Arthur at Glenwood, and I'd seen a half dozen or more squad cards going up and down other sidestreets (Loyola, Lakewood, Albion) earlier on my ride. As I hit the alley between Glenwood and Newgard, I saw two squads with lights on coming south on Newgard and heard a huge screech--I looked left (south) and a car was going fast in reverse northbound on Newgard. It crashed into a couple of parked cars on the west side of Newgard, and someone jumped out and ran. Cops leapt out of their squads, guns drawn, and followed. At that point, I continued west to get my dinner, figuring if there was gunplay I didn't want to be in range.

This is a crazy neighborhood to walk in. I walk my dogs all the time and people run through lights and stop signs all the time!! Sometimes they just look at me crossing the street and go anyhow. I was happy to talk to a policeman who told me that he had given out hundreds of tickets for running a stop light on Sheridan and that there is a camera to catch people talking on their cell phones. I never start to walk across the street until I see the car come to a complete stop. I have complained to the Alderman's office about it several times. People often drive right through the stop sign at Pratt and Lakewood.
So do we know who the crazy punk is that hit the woman? Let's hope they get thrown in the clinker forever. People - you have to be really careful when you cross the streets up here. I lived in Lincoln Park and Lakeview before moving to east Rogers Park - this is the very worst place for drivers running stop lights and stop signs that I have ever seen. I walk all the time with my dogs. Do NOT cross the street until all vehicles have come to a complete stop.
That's sad news that the woman was killed.
It is scary walking around here, knowing there are punks out there joyriding on Interstate Sheridan.

Some of us from the neighborhood put up a memorial at Greenview and Greenleaf. Some beautiful flowers, and candles. Rest in peace Maria. Our thoughts are with you, your son, and your family.
Did you see the article about this in The Tribune today with Joe Moore making his usual excuses about why something hasn't been done?
