(Oct. 14, 2012/Rogers Park) - There are those who will tell you Morse Ave. isn't a hellhole anymore. Well, when a gun battle goes down -- and blood is spilled -- something isn't right.
Net-neighbors went on-line claiming to hear "shots fired" at 10:45 p.m., near the Heartland Cafe, and other's went on-line claiming to hear "shots fired" in the 1600 block of Morse Ave. While one net-neighbor heard "shots fired" as far away as Howard and Greenview. Some net-neighbors must have great hearing.
Or, they're just making shit up.
In all there are ten various topic threads on the Morse and Greenview shooting last night posted today on Everyblock. That's right, 10 net-neighbor threads, gossiping and pointing fingers at each other. How "Un-neighborly" is that for a neighborhood website that promotes neighborhood internet kindness.
What was the real story? Just after midnight three people were shot at Morse and Greenview. Here's what Chicago Breaking News had to say.
BLOGNOTES: Gang-related... Really? I would've never guessed it. And, to top it off, all this right under a blue light camera."Two people in a van were shot about 12:30 a.m. today in Rogers Park and one of them returned fire, hitting their 21-year-old attacker, police said. The 21-year-old first approached the van on foot near Morse and Greenview avenues and opened fire, police said. Two men inside the van were struck, and one of them shot back, hitting the first shooter in the face and neck. The 21-year old was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston where he was listed in serious condition and placed into police custody, Alfaro said. The shooter inside the van, a 25-year-old man, was taken to Illinois Masonic with a gunshot wound to the groin; his condition has stabilized. He was also placed in police custody. The other man hit in the van, who is 30, refused treatment after receiving a graze wound to the buttocks. Police believe the shooting was gang-related, Alfaro said."
BLOGNOTES #2: Below is a photo taken of the police activity from the north east corner Morse and Greenview by an "inactive Everyblock net-neighbor" last night. He/she probably was taking it from the safety of their balcony above the Rogers Park Business Alliance.

Nice photo, how the heck did you get this? It mustve been from that new building at Greenview and Morse.
BTW I think you should date those older entries so that people dont get confused.
I keep thinking that the flashing blue light camera isnt needed at this intersection, but likely it will be for some time until that four plus one across the street on the south side of Morse is rennovated and rehabbed.
