Garbage fire shuts down Sheridan at Pratt

A local resident uses his personal fire extinguisher to put out a burning garbage bag tossed in the alley
If you're traveling down Sheridan Road tonight, about 9:15 p.m., around Columbia to Morse Avenue, forget about it. The Police have the streets blocked off.

All because of an apparent garbage fire.

It took a dozen fire engines, a couple of ambulances, a half dozen squad cars — to halt all traffic activity — because of someone's garbage that caught fire in the 6807 North Pratt building, located on the Northeast corner of Pratt and Sheridan. The building is also home to 7/Eleven and the Oasis Bar.

In the alley, a resident who lives next door, used his own personal Fire Extinguisher to put out the smoldering garbage bag that was tossed from the building next door -- as his wife and children look on. Mom could be overheard saying to the kids, one who wore a fireman hat, "Let daddy play fireman!"

A resident waits outside with her pet rabbit on Pratt.
A dozen fire trucks, EMS and multiple police cars block of Sheridan Road for a burning garbage bag
A warming bus has been set up for the displaced residents, including a young lady and her pet rabbit.

No injuries have been reported.

BLOGNOTES #1: This is the same building a cat jumped to its death in a fire, covered exclusively here in 2008. Warning, the video in that past blog post is very graphic. This blog post I'm going for the cute pet rabbit crowd who reads Everyblock.

Bunzalore started no fires. Unless fires can be started from cuteness

No, I know that rabbit. It would never do such a thing.

To paraphrase our govenor Pat Quinn: "If you save one rabbit, you've saved the whole world". This is why we pay our taxes, dear fellow citizens. We expect quick and overwhelming responses to these emergencies.
