WARNING: Disturbing image below.
This morning fire engulfed the 6807 North Sheridan building for the umpteenth time. This time the fire claimed the life of the tenants cat, which jumped to it's death.
A neighbor watching the whole episode said the cat was on the ledge the entire time. Once the water hoses started putting out the flames, the smoke overwhelmed the cat and it tried unsuccessfully to leap to another ledge. Unable to land on the other ledge, the cat bounced off the building to the ground - and was killed on impact.
Update - 8:46 AM: Sheridan Road is now opened up to traffic.

I hate hearing about defenseless pets dying in these fires. I also hate leaving my own cats to go to work.
That used to be a nice building. I asked what caused the fire when passed by it, but the firefighters said they did not yet know.
I'm hearing it was a kitchen related fire.
Channel 7.
Journalism/Blogging at it's finest.
Very tasteful Craig. I hope if you are with your dog or cat when it dies you videotape it and put it up for all the world to see.
I feel so well informed .
Sheesh man.
I agree, Charlie, you shouldn't vidoetape the death of someone's loved one, animal or human.
I didn't watch the video, I didn't want to see it. Knowing it is bad enough.
Was this really necessary Craig? Its one thing to report the fire, but showing the death of pet?
How about telling us more about the fire what caused it why did they bring out what I counted as 13 firetrucks and 10 ambulances. Was any one else hurt besides someone's cat
Craig, I really appreciate what info I get here, but please don't show dead pets again. I heard on the scanner that they were taking the woman to the hospital and she was very upset that they couldn't find her cat.
God knows what her situation was, or what that cat meant to her. I hope she doesn't find out about the picture here.
Channel 2 reports...> "A Rogers Park neighborhood blog also reported that neighbors said a cat was sitting on the ledge during the fire, and when firefighters began battling the blaze, the cat leapt out and landed on the ground. Neighbors said the cat seemed to be going for another ledge, but instead fell to its death."
You are sick and disgusting for showing this. GET A LIFE!!!
BJ, To eliminate trash like you from the equation, I decided to ban your comments. Move on.
I hear the cat started the fire intentionally.
All this negativity.
Didn't everyone hear the birds chirping in the background?
Really truly...could you take this off? I love what you do, but this is too painful.
I appreciate the information this blog provides but no one benefits from watching a cat jump to it's death.
Don't watch it people! Just don't watch it if you can't handle it. It's not that complicated.
I didn't watch the video, bt I appreciated knowing what was going on when I left for work that morning. Thanks for that Craig.
Jocelyn-
I know this is late. I didn't watch the video. But I was forced to see the photo of the dead cat. I am well aware of my choices. I CHOOSE to read this blog because of the information it provides about the neighborhood. Invaluable! I do not expect to be visually assaulted with pictures of deceased pets.
