Morseland Bar as dead as the rat next to the building

Another dead rat behind the Morseland Bar
Since our last story on dead rats behind Morseland Bar, another one has strangely wound up dead by the kitchen door, in back.  This is a mystery beyond belief.

Why are all these rats showing up dead behind Gregory Altman's nightclub?
Private Party or public deception?
No one knows what's going on at the Morseland, located at 1218 West Morse Avenue, lately. The sign on the door for the last 72 hours or so, says they are having a private party. I'm beginning to think someone at the Morseland is trying to con the neighborhood into believing there is a private party - when, perhaps, what it looks like is a serious rodent problem.

What's worse is some anonymous net-neighbors on Everyblock, owned by the NBC Corporation, are being mighty unfriendly, violating numerous Everyblock rules and regulations that have gone unchecked by the heavy-handed moderation team being paid big bucks to keep people from posting anything deemed unneighborly.

There's a bunch of name-calling and speculation on the fact Gregory Altman and partner didn't pay the Morseland's taxes.

Angie speculated without facts, "I heard from a friend that they could not renew their liquor license because they owed back taxes...."

Mrs. Crabbets wants the neighborhood to boycott the business, saying, "if it is true Morseland has not paid their taxes, why would anyone want to patronize it?"

R.J., called the owners of the Morseland, "idiots...."

Yet, no one can prove these allegations are true or false. No one inside is talking. No one outside is talking. The only thing hanging around the building is dead.

Even their business website looks to be contaminated.

BLOGNOTES #1: Wonder if the city will fine them for not removing the sidewalk beer garden that hasn't been taken down for the season, too? For the record, even the plants in the planters around the beer garden have died.

BLOGNOTES #2: Is it possible the Morseland Bar got closed for violating their liquor license? On November 2, 2012, at 12:25 a.m.,  a bar in the 1200 block of West Morse Avenue was cited for a liquor license violation. The Morseland is the only bar in the 1200 block. The case number with the Chicago Police Department is HV544605.

I'm going to miss that place. The coke people sold there after 10 PM was top-notch. I could stay high all night long on $50 bucks. I'm sure I spilled enough on the bathroom floor to kill more than one rat in my day. RIP MORSELAND!

Aaargh, rats always leave a sinking ship har, har, har. Maybe they got into some bad seabiscuits in the galley.

It is now 10::22 PM on Friday night November 09, 2012. The Morseland parking lot is EMPTY. Sad. I liked the active nightlife on the east end of Morse Avenue.

It's up to date on the real estate taxes, so if they owe taxes, it's to the state or city.

The outdoor seating area is still there? Now thats weird. If Morseland fails something better will take its place. I kinda felt the food and service there werent the best.

I remember once waiting to be seated and people who had come after me were seated first. Thats never happened to me in me old country of Ireland.

Judging from the rats in the alley even if they do open I'm a bit apprehensive to eat there in the future.

I don't know, but good riddance. Now, if we can get rid of the Glenwood and the new MorseL taverns.......

Always nice to see you taking pleasure in the problems faced by a committed Rogers Park business. Time for you to shut this moronic blog down and go find a job.

Isn't this Scott Phillip's and Hugh Devlin's favotite hangout? No wonder there are rats crawling all over the place.

Anonymous said...

The place was empty when it was open. No change.

I second this sentiment. There are rats in Chicago alleys. Get over it. I love this place. It was my first favorite hangout, I met my husband there, we had our baby shower there... I would be very hurt to lose this place. At a time when businesses tend to come and go so quickly morseland has been a happy constant for us. If you don't like it, don't go there. You sound like a pompous ass so I'm sure we don't wanna run into you there (or anywhere else - go crawl under a rock and die).

Talk about pompous.

Anonymous said...

Why do you care, Craig? You weren't allowed to go in there anyway?

Fucking nut job.

Oh, and love your EB-like censorship you fucking coward.

People love Morseland for many reasons, not the least of which is they don't allow losers like you to come in. Like most other respectable places in Rogers Park.

I heard from a friend of a friend of a friend they were opening on Thursday.

Craig must be happy. Isn't it his goal to get businesses that he doesn't like or bars hes been thrown out of closed? His own personal vendetta site. That's all. He probably had his dog kill those rats and he planted them there. What business or neighbor next on his hit list ?

The death vigil for Morseland continues. I've lit a candle for the owners, employees, and the business itself. And we wait...

Craig Gernhardt likes to watch the world burn. Nothing pleases him more than to look out upon Morse avenue and masturbate to every little problem while offering no solutions. Good job, Craig! You've proven yourself to be such an asset to the community. Aren't you banned from Morseland? Hmm.

I'm a Morseland employee, we'll be back open very soon. Also, all Chicago alleys have rats.

I'm not sure where this hate or rather enjoyment of failure is coming from.

This neighborhood needs more eateries, small businesses and establishments that will attract people from other parts of the city and keep locals spending money locally. People who are shopping, eating, spending money and walking around Rogers Park by default makes it a safer place. While the Morseland has/had it's problems, overall it was an asset to the neighborhood not a liability.

If we are going to break out the pitchfork and torches, or shout good riddance why don't we wait until one of the run down liqueur stores in the neighborhood goes under.

Hi, my name is Craig Gernhardt and I am a massive pussy. I'm afraid of what people will say about my ridiculous and useless blog so I will continue to use a moderated posting format instead of allowing my followers to speak freely. I'm that much of a coward, I know!

You can always tell what local businesses or neighbors have pissed Craig off or banned him from. They end up here! His goal of posting pix of rats in an alley behind Morseland worked. Hurt their business. So neighborly !

Who will be next with rats in the ally? MorseL ? Chuckies?

My rat buddy says they will be open tomorrow. I can't wait........ I'm hungry.

Craig brought to light this place of business that serves food had rodent problem and created a risk to the public. Kudo's for him. The public needs to be aware of health issues like this no matter what neighborhood. This place of business needs to clean up its act or be kept shut down.

Anonymous said...

The rats were in the alley outside the restaurant. Have they ever failed a health inspection? Wouldn't surprise me if he planted them. He's got nothing better to do. Since he has been banned from there too

So, Craig, from the anon's point of view, this place has rats, has liquor license violations, sells coke, and then lies to the public about some private party that's going on... which isn't really going on... and you're banned from this sorry ass joint? All I can say is WOW!!!!

You're lower than low, Craig.

Dig the new heading Craig, ala the old Morse Theatre.

Anyone want to know why everyblock started sucking so bad check this out.

You're right, Billy C. I must be low. That's what happens when you challenge Scott Phillips, a regualr drunk at Morseland, to fight in dead rat alley. You get banned for life.

Or, in this case, until the city shuts them down. Which it looks like they did?

Now, Mr Scott Phillips has to find another place to get shit-faced.

I'd paid to see you kick Scott Phillips ass. The guy is a jerk.

I'm sorry to say I live on Sheridan and I've rarely ventured to bars on Morse, I just have visions of having to do combat while intoxicated around there, it's just easier to go to another neighborhood or listen to them make monkey jokes at Bruno and Tim's.
I have no problems beating people up sober, but it just dulls the fun of the evening to have to explain to the officer that they started it and I finished it, I'd rather just go home and play Halo instead.

I remember - not too long ago the Morseland being a very busy place. Good food, service, drinks etc. I'd hate to see it gone. I hope they reopen.

IT IS NOW FRIDAY AND THEY ARE STILL CLOSED!!

I always had good food & service at that place does anyone know why they really have been closed??
