City dumps $1 million into a broken program

CeaseFire has “no significant success stories,” a ranking police source said.
"In order to maintain the public’s trust, CeaseFire doesn’t provide police with the names of those involved in conflicts or identify their gang affiliations," Tio Hardiman said.

A Sun-Times report today shows CeaseFire has no significant success stories.  I've followed this organization for years, and that's not news to me.

Back in 2007, I reported the same thing.

There's more. Another sad tale from CeaseFire in Rogers Park.

Same for 2006.

Nothing changed in the spring of 2012, either.

BLOGNOTES: What are your thoughts on CeaseFire? Working or not?

They shouldn't have spent a dollar on this crap. It's gangbangers working with gangbangers.
What we have to do is destroy the toxic culture.
I'd start with somehow making violent rap music uncool.
Could we get seniors to listen to gangster rap and dress in that style? As soon as they seen that I think it would make it less fun for them.
Tipper Gore somehow made Heavy Metal a joke and not dangerous anymore, you only see your occasional hesher and they're a joke, couldn't we do the same to rap?
Let's dig up James Brown and he can show them young'ins what real music is.

I like the t-shirts and bumper stickers. I think they're cool.

Has cease fire ever actually documented an incident where they took the gun away and stopped someone from being shot in rp? Or do they just show up afterwards?

One thing I dont like about ceasefire is when they put their stickers onto stop signs. That's vandalism.

Its not PC to say, but if you see a bunch of Ceasefire stickers around, that ghettoizes an area just as sure as a blinking blue light camera. It says you are in a dangerous place.

Fucking Rahm does whatever "looks good".

A audit showed the program did nothing in 2007. Why on earth continue to pour money into it?

Just another well intentioned program that doesn't produce results but does spend money which could be put to better uses.

Ceasefire is nothing more than government paid gangbangers.

If you support Ceasefire you support gangbanging.

RE: "CeaseFire has no significant success stories."
WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG
Ceasefire has SUCCESSFULLY gotten the government to confiscate $1 million dollars of private sector money and hand it over to the gangs for their private use.
If that is not success, I don't know what is.

This is what Obama calls wealth redistribution. He is currently demanding higher tax rates on the "rich" to do even more of this type of left wing activism. Thanks to all of you Rogers Parkers who vote for this bullshit.

So true Chip Bagg. They did accomplish a lot by conning the system into giving them a shit ton of money to do absolutely nothing but work behind the scenes running drugs and guns.

From what I was told last summer by a city hall worker, Rahm's capricious $1 million+ donation of city funds to Operation CeaseFire caused such a riff between him and Police Superintendant McCarthy when McCarthy went off on Emannuel over that donation, that rumors began than McCarthy would not be renewed as a result. Can we keep McCarthy and designate Rahm and Joe Moore for assignment to another city?
