Were "fireworks" mistaken for "shots fired"?

At 7:47 p.m., November 13, 2012, an anonymous neighbor called 911 reporting "shots fired" in the 1800 block of West Estes. Around the same time an anonymous neighbor called 911 for "shots fired" near Warren Park at Bell and Arthur. A few minutes later an anonymous neighbor called 911 hearing two "shots fired" in the 2100 block of West Morse.

At 7:52 p.m., an anonymous neighbor called 911 saying someone was shooting off "fireworks" at 2240 West Morse.

I guess we'll never know if they were "fireworks" or "shots fired"? Even the police seems confused. One female officer asked dispatch to call back the 911 callers because the range of "shots fired" reports were so far apart. The police chasing the banging noise around the neighborhood couldn't get dispatch to call back any of the 911 callers for more information, because they all the callers were anonymous.

BLOGNOTES: If you're not willing to leave your name, sign a complaint report, and go to court on the case you called 911 about, please, people don't call 911. All you're doing is sending the police on wild goose chases. And, you know how much we love our geese in Rogers Park. Our alderman loved them so much, he had a temporary ban on Foie gras.

And remember, gangbangers can't hit the broad side of a barn, much like A-team baddies.
The chances are higher of getting run over in an intersection than one of them fatally wounding you.

Yeah, some cop rushing to the scene could hit a pedestrian.

OT, but what about the guy killed at Devon & Maplewood?
As anyone that goes down Devon west of Leavitt knows, the Indians never cross at the crosswalks, they cross everywhere else, even 30' from a crosswalk.
So, I'm sorry he was killed, but stop jaywalking, you don't know how to do it safely, like native Chicagoans do!

Time wasters for sure. These anon callers probably are the same anons who live every-block.

Muslims on Devon trust in the will of Allah. If Allah is protecting them they can walk directly into the line of traffic and be safe. Ishmallah. It is the will of Allah. Just be careful when Allah has a bad hair day.

Dumb city folk who don't know gunshots from firecrackers.

I agree Billy C. Everyblock is for grown-ups who want to act like teenagers who don't know how to use Facebook.

I agree that is a very dangerous place to drive and walk. People expect cars to watch for them sometimes which is not always going to happen.

Dude, read EB. No one cares about gunfire,!!! They want to know who lost a dog or cat, or who's giving a way their sofa/loveseat, or where to get a haircut. These are the important issues facing Rogers Park. Not gunfire. Get with the program.

Please don't call them "fireworks". Fireworks create lovely colorful displays in the night sky. These noises may be "FIRECRACKERS" or gun shots.
But every bang in the night is not a gun shot....or even a firecracker.
I must admit I do like the idea of the po-po chasing wild geese around Rogers Park. Work off some of that bacon fat around their chubby tummies.
Can you say "oink"?

How heartless. My kitty Rosie has bloody stools and frothy vomit. Don't you care about her and won't you give me money to pay her medical bills? How can you be so insensitive and cruel? Shame on you. Phoebe is trying to help us and you mock us.

If there's bloody piles of shit coming from anywhere in Rogers Park, there's Crazy Craig with his camera.

Take refuge. The Mage Warriors are planning vengeance on you pontifical fools. Do not disparage Angels with cameras. They reveal the Truth and will stand boldly before the blazing eye of Judgment and Justice.

It is ironic that this occurred on November 13, 2012 because I had the same arguement on EB regarding an incident exactly 1 month to the day earlier October 13, 2012. On that night there was a shootout between three gangbangers, two in a van and 1 on foot at the intersection of Greenview and Morse about 30 minutes after midnight. Ironically, EB had been "blowing up" for almost two hours from neighbors on the east side of the Red Line tracks between Lunt and Greenleaf who heard a series of gunshots @ approximately 10:45 pm. Believe me I have fired more than 40 different firearms and know the difference between gunshots and fireworks. An arguement ensued on EB the next day as several posters claiming to live near Field school and that this was someone shooting off fireworks. BULLFUCKINGSHIT!!! The people deneying this were either MIKE JAMES himself or some flunkies posting capricious denials for him as he didn't want the area around his precious heartland cafe blemished by the truth, and his pal, Alderman Homer Moore is too worried about offending the minority vote to actually do his job and insist upon agressive prosecution of those who commit violent crime in the 49th Ward.

Callers name address come up on 911 screen.

To anon at 11:42 PM:
While the name & number come up on the call taker's screen, if the caller asks for anonymity, that won't be sent to the dispatchers.
If the call comes from a cellphone, only the number comes up most of the time & if it's a burner phone, that's useless.

RE: "Callers name address come up on 911 screen."
This is true. But caller has option to NOT include this information when call is passed on to po-po. Caller MUST approve if name/address/phone is passed to po-po for follow-up.
Please take responsibility for your calls. Let the po-po know who you are so they can find you for follow-up questions if necessary.
Don't be a chicken. Just say "oink".

Yea, all the everyblock peeps calling in "fireworks". Come on, like people are shooting off fireworks all year long. Wake up peeps.

@Chip Bagg:
Wrong!
The caller doesn't have to approve their info being passed on to the dispatchers.
The caller must say they want to be anonymous for that info not to go out on the air.
If the caller says nothing, the dispatchers get everything about the caller!

Why are chicago cops so far? Where I'm from the sheriffs deputies are all steroid freaks, and they could kill a guy with their bare hands.

To the pieces of shit who criticized a dead man before you knew the whole story: They were NOT jaywalking. They were at a fucking crosswalk. The idiot who plowed into them was going east on Devon and wanted to turn north onto Maplewood, but traffic had him a half block from that turn, so he gunned it into oncoming traffic and turned right into them. But who cares about the facts when it's more important to get your racist ignorance out there, right? May you and every person you care about suffer some horrific tragedy., so that I can laugh and gloat and say you rightfully deserved it.
