* Poor Attendance for CeaseFire Vigil

Vernandez Jones and a half dozens outreach workers for CeaseFire joined 5 (five) residents in a circle prayer and march around the CAPS beat 2431 district last night in response to last Friday's night gun battle where Brian Jones and Jumaane Jones got shot. Other so-called leaders like Harrington and Alderman Moore were noticeably absent. Usually Harrington shows up dragging the other guy with him.

This was no where near the crowd who walked with CeaseFire on March 31st. Are people getting tired of the circle prayer/marches? Are people afraid to walk on Morse Avenue? Are these circle prayers held at the wrong time of the day? Why are people not bothering to put closure to these senseless shootings as the CeaseFire motto says? Does anyone care about crime?

Or is everyone too worried about Loyola University adding a state of the art building to their campus. A building to help improve the students higher learning. Who in their right mind wouldn't want these students to have the best education money can buy? People want to stop that? Those aren't leaders.

Personally I'm not surprised. Crime is far more difficult to deal with. I've come to find out most people like taking the easy, safer route to get through life.

Then give everyone a second chance...they can join Beat 2422 and 24/7 in our monthly walk Saturday, April 22, at 7:30pm under the blue police cam on Howard/Ashland.

People aren't "too worried" about adding a state of the art building, their concern is the LOCATION. Many people recall their college campus days and the green commons as a gathering place is one of their first memories. This generation of college kids has a right to enjoy a similar spot.

Think about the family farm becoming a Wal-Mart, or a mall. What thought does that invoke?

Craig:
This event was held at 11AM when a lot of people are at WORK. Furthermore, Rogers Park is home to people who have to travel out of the 'hood to get to work. If it's 11AM, these folks are out in the 'burbs, or maybe even downtown. (Don't just take my word.Ride the 626 and talk to folks.)
The shame is these "virtual suburbanites" might have wanted to show up at this event if it were held...oh I don't know, at 7PM, or some time when working people get home.
Love your blog. Keep up the good work.

It interesting the way Gordon and Harrington are using this Loyola project to further their agenda. Once again they trot out their reactionary Conservancy mantra to claim stewardship of our lakefront.

Has anyone else noticed these two only do this crap when one or both of them are running for something? These clowns have become adept at arriving at just the right time to ride the wave of popular dissent. Where were they in the initial stages of this project?

People with power don't take them seriously because these antics are transparent, self-serving, and just plain silly. Hopefully this building won't happen where its planned to be, but hopefully also people will finally recognize that these two can't be trusted to secure anything other than their own political agendas.

Perhaps a prayer vigil on behalf of prayer vigils may be in order?

Yeah, what scum-sucking son-of-bitches they are! Everyone knows everything they do is politically motivated. All candidates should be required to stop everything they are doing once they declare, so they can't be accused of confusing people.

About the only thing sleazier I can think of would be NOT declaring and carrying on with a political agenda, sneaking around in stealth mode, so no one will question your motives.

By the way, how about you, Craig?

Say, wasn't that you at the back of a community meeting with a "Gernhardt for Alderman" sign?

Isn't this whole blog kinda transparent and self-serving?

That meeting happened because Jim Ginderske monitored the Park District's planning process, went to the South Shore Country Club, found out about the plan, and embarrassed the planners into having a meeting in RP.

Thanks for clearing this up Thomas, The "Broken Heart" really doesn't like to toot it's own horn.

Will you guys quit fighting?

It's time for another prayer circle...

Can we all join hands for a moment of prayer?
Say Friday night about 7 p.m.
In front of the Shrine of Our Lady of Lunt and Santa’s workshop.

My dog is a german Sheppard, but I shall not dawdle
He maketh me safe on Morse and Lunt
He leadeth me beside the still shuttered stores
He restoreth my woes
He leatheth me out of the paths of drug dealers and muggers

Yea, though I walk through the alley of the shadow of death
I will fear no evil
For my bullet proof vest is with me
I pack a rod, and my can of mace, it comforts me.
Thou cop cams taketh pictures of me in the presence of mine enemies;
I willeth cover my head and duck
When a couple of bullets runneth over.

Surely gang graffiti and symbols will follow me as long as developers are hated and vilified.
And I will dwell in the Hell Hole forever.
