Eight gang members are in custody on drug charges and another four are being sought after police shut down an open-air drug market in CAPS Beat 2431 !
Operation Morse Code targeted a drug territory bounded by Pratt, Greenleaf, Sheridan and Clark and Morse controlled by the Gangster Disciples street gang, which peddled crack cocaine in the area, according to a release from Chicago Police.
Initiated in May, the investigation was launched in response to complaints about narcotics activity from citizens, business owners and 24th District Commander Bruce Rottner, who noted an increase in violent crimes in the area, according to the release.
"With a Morse POD #19 camera at Glenwood and Morse, it forced these drug dealers to conduct their sales in alleys, vehicles, hallways and gangways,” Lt. John Escalante of the Narcotics and Gang Investigations Section said in the release. “But by using surveillance and undercover drug purchases, we were able to identify the primary players and build a drug conspiracy case.”

Blognotes: Notice this is a citizen and business owner investigation. Citizens who care enough to stick their neck out against these gangs. No elected public official helped in the bust.
Thank you Sergeant Cooper, Commander Rottner and all the officers who stuck it to these super dangerous scum-bags.
