* Actual Work Begins @ Coe Hole

For the builder types, excavation (digging) and foundation building has begun at the GreenMoore! Oops, I mean Greenmore at Greenview and Morse Avenue.

Reasons for the delay:

According to ace reporter Toni at 24/7 Howardwatcher, " Mr. Coe stated that the delay in construction was not due to the ‘demolition errors’ but to accommodate their first floor occupant Devcorps needs. DevCorp is slated to occupy the first floor ‘commerical area’. This accomodation required a re-design of the plans, required a submission of additional soil samplings, and the acquisition of new permits for the new renderings. Also, it had to be determined if the water supply to the site would come from Morse or Greenview – thus an additional permit.

Blognotes: Imagine that, a hole in the ground that actually has work being done after a year (or years) of delays and excuses. Can anyone say Adelphi at Estes and Clark? Or the Gale Fieldhouse at Howard and Ashland? How about the newest 'Broken Heart' featured hole at the northeast corner of Granville and Broadway? Another hole in the 49th ward.

Woo hoo! A Staples!

Might seem like progress, but only if you don't remember what USED to be on that corner. Moore is hoping the hole has been there so long people have forgotten, and it seems like a good bet.

What used to be there was a professional building with doctor's offices and a medical clinic. In a neighborhood grossly under served in terms of health care.

Some call it progress.

Alderman Moore's got his finger somewhere - but it's sure not anywhere near a pulse.

Yes Hugh, thank you for protecting the interests of 49th Ward residents even though you don't live here.

But gosh I sure wish you were around to halt the exodus from the city of all the health care providers who used to serve the ward from the upper floors of places like the Pivot Point building and the Ganville and Broadway. Hmmm, I wonder why they decided to leave? Could it have been the market forces at the time? Noooooo! Of course not! It was all Moore's fault!
