Last night, Channel 11's 'Chicago Tonight' did a segment on CeaseFire. Supporters of CeaseFire were speaking out to keep funding for the organization that 'so-called' fights gun violence. But with the recent audit that raises questions about just how effective CeaseFire actually is.
Elizabeth Brackett discussed the CeaseFire funding issues with a panel of experts - which included the man in charge of CeaseFire Gary Slutkin, Susan Hartnett and Lance Williams of Northeastern University.
* Lance Williams was relating a study the school did on CeaseFire and found things almost categorically opposed to the data CeaseFire claims.
* A state audit questioned CeaseFire's effectiveness and why nearly $264,000 in expenditures couldn't be accounted for.
And yesterday, Ms. Jamiko Rose with the Organization of the Northeast, (O.N.E.) the not-for-profit organization who handles CeaseFire's financial affairs in Rogers Park, was at the downtown CeaseFire rally claiming a 54% reduction in shootings in Rogers Park. Ms. Rose, I ask you, start coming up with actual facts to back these wild claims of your's.

Is CeaseFire Worth It?
The Illinois Auditor General, the Chicago Police Department, and CeaseFire's own Executive Director weigh in.
If there was a drop in shootings, it was due to gentrification. The 54% number seems quite implausible, however. Maybe this is from a peak at some point in the early nineties?
Getting a few million for services sure makes an organization a business. If they can't account for spending then why should they get a single penny in the future? Incompetance is really not an excuse.
Where is the check registar?
