BLOGNOTES: No gang shootings this summer? Take off the rose colored glasses Ms. Rose, I quickly came up with six. And why's Lorraine Swanson buying it? Sounds to me like someone's blowing smoke up our rumps and the News Star is helping them promote their propaganda.

Like I said, these are just the one's I covered or heard about. It's no wonder CeaseFire missed so many circle prayers this year. They've got blinders on, and so does the News Star reporter.

The News-Star ATTRIBUTED the statement that there were no shootings to the E.D. of O. N. E., which is what we want them to do, I think. The News-Star did us a service by documenting, on the record, O. N. E.'s nonsense.
The News-Star still exists? Amazing, especially considering they missed what has been going on.
Hugh, I agree with Craig here. This article really reads like a promotion for CeaseFire. This is the paragraph from the article her statement appeared in:
"Rose said that the summer in Rogers Park has been relatively low key. She added that in the four 24th District police beats covered by CeaseFire Rogers Park outreach workers, there were no gang-related shootings this summer. The layoffs come at a particularly critical time, as Chicago public school students return to school on Sept. 4."
Nowhere in this article are the actual facts presented that refute this statement. Therefore the article is at best poorly written, at worst it is biased.
I agree that they "documented" her "nonsense" but without doing her homework and presenting the full picture, Ms. Swanson is presenting an inaccurate account of the truth.
By the way, can it be that someone who should clearly be aware of the actual facts, i.e. Ms. Rose, and chooses to say something completely false in light of those facts might actually be accused of . . . oh, I don't know . . . LYING?
It's important ot recall that when Ceasefire talks about "shootings" they mean fatalities, that's all they measure themselves on
"only fatalities"?!? Are you joking? So CF isn't about decreasing gang related violence and lawnessness, just gang related fatalities. That's absurd. Even so, though, haven't some of the shootings in RP this year been fatal?
By the way, thanks, hugh, for letting me know about how CF measures themselves. I don't want you to think I'm upset at you - I'm just blown away by what you said. My word, that just sounds so nuts to me.
