Bernard said....> Hello everyone; thank you for your input on the issues that affect the Howard Street Corridor and your commitment to addressing those issues.

Your survey comments show a clear desire to focus our energy on improving Howard street and reducing crime:

13 - Improve Howard St businesses/ business district

11 - Improve neighborhood safety and address crime

8 - Address loitering/noise issues related to youth

5 - Address issues related to residents/landlords/owners

3 - Beautify/clean up Howard corridor

1 - Improve Government/neighbor communications

1 - Create events involving both sides of Howard

Based on your responses, the focus of our first meeting will be the Howard Street business district. The objective of this first meeting will be to develop an action plan so we can make the best use of our time. The meeting is scheduled for Saturday, February 9, at 2pm, at the Howard Street Police Outpost (633 Howard, Evanston; for Chicagoans that's across the street from the Popeye's Chicken in the 1900 block of Howard).

Please RSVP to 2424@ameritech.net by Monday, February 4, so we can get an accurate count on who will be attending.

Blognotes: Never mind DevCorp North already has a Special Service Area Tax (19) fund of a 1/4 million dollars a year, that's suppose to do these items listed above. Never mind the City of Chicago already taxes you a arm and a leg to do these things. Never mind there's a half dozen not-for-profit social service agencies that get government grants to handle these sorts of issues. A group of neighbors don't think that's being accomplished - and is going it on their own. Good luck with your new organization.

Bernard, here's a example of landscaping beautification services that can be done without the help of DevCorp.
