Much like all of 2007, after narrowly winning reelection by a razor-thin margin to a relative unknown in politics, (mainly by raising and spending gobs and gobs and gobs of campaign money to accomplish this task) the first ten months of 2008 haven't been all that kind to Joesph A. Moore, 49th Ward Alderman either.
In 2008 we've had countless gang fights, teen fights and cat fights.
We've had four murders. OK, I'm counting. (I won't bother with the links, judging from the comments section to the 'crime is down' stories, these issues are less of a worry to the community.) Judging from the amount of information coming from the Alderman's office, he's not too worried about the crime either.
* The 49th ward democratic parties Magic Voting Pen. (Lot's of community chatter on this story)
* Pay to Play land-zoning, resulting in a rash of cookie-cutter condos that are still sitting empty.
* The lack of Land Issue transparency. His website still has no 2008 zoning decisions posted.
* The public berating from Mayor Daley and subsequent over-turning of the Foie Gras ban. (The community - and world commented heavy on this one too)
* The North Shore School teardown for a campaign contributor.
Three most recent issues that have Rogers Park residents in an uproar with Joe Moore contain a little of the list posted above.
* Small-time campaign helper, Jim "49th ward version of Stuart Levine" Ginderske's Boys and Girls Club at the New Gale Community Center.
* Big-time campaign contributor Rich Aronson's Lakefront development on Sheridan Road.
* Big-Time campaign contributor Cedomir "Chad" Zuric's massive Adelphi hole in the ground.
Despite his self-proclaimed 4000 person email list, Joe Moore has lost touch with his fellow Rogers Park residents - BIG TIME. Here's what on commenter had to say on the Reader blog.

His response is behave like the smug to anyone he perceives as a non-supporter. Just like he called you {the Reader's Ben Joravsky} to draw that line in the sand, to make you declare which side you are on.
His actions are so remarkably slimy and his performance so below par that there is no way in hell the "them" half of his ward will ever support him.
Therefore, Joe is in a constant state of battle. It's impossible for him to build consensus, so he'll never get community-wide support for anything. At least half of his ward will always be against anything he proposes. They will also be suspect of his true motives.
And that, if you think about it, is why he can never do his job effectively.
And don't even get me started on his efforts to undermine Mayor Daley. Joe simply isn't bright enough to even play in that game."

I find it of great interest that there really is no outspoken group of ward residents who openly support Joe.
Outside of a few political colleageus, and a couple of ranting wack jobs who simply argue anything, where is the support? Where are all the pro-Joe blogs? Where is all the media coverage of Joe's grand accomplishments?
Respectfully, Craig, there are people who openly criticize your blog, but they do so because they think you're too negative, too extreme or they just don't like you. I have yet, however, to see a group of any size criticize your blog because they feel so positively about Joe Moore.
Joe has a 17-year history of serving as a stereotypical low-level politician; he can point to a few concrete contributions, but nothing that is even resasonably impressive given his 17 years in office.
Joe has made a living off of many years of voter apathy in Rogers Park. As the community has changed and more residents are paying attention, Joe has been seen for the underachieving, lazy politician that he is.
Therefore, most of what he has accomplished has been very recent and only because he barely managed to keep his job and more than half of the voting community is tired of his shit.
Face it, anyone with a reasonable intellect and work ethic would be horrified by the condition of Rogers Park and demonstrate some sense of urgency to make a difference.
Are you reading this, Joe? Please get off your sizable behind and do something to solve the problems we face. Otherwise, admit you can't do the job and get out.
Joe, we gave you 17 years to make a difference and you failed. We no longer want you here.
Thumbs down on Less is Moore.
I worked the phone bank once, for the "relatively unknown politician" and think a big part of why Gordon lost (aside from the invisible pens and other fraud) was that a lot of people were told he is Republican. I was unsuccessful in unconvincing friends and neighbors that issues matter more than party affiliation, so they got what they asked for, and unfortunately so did the rest of us.
I'm glad Collin Powell understands.

RP should be a jewel; a lake front location, incredible transportation resources, high residential to commercial land use proportions, fantastic housing stock-where else in the city can you find 2000+ SF apartments/condos with the oversized lots we have up here-, relative affordability, convenient to Evanston, Northwestern University, Loyola, etc.
What is lacking.... Leadership;
to acknowledge that an over-emphasis on low income, social services facilities, drug/prison re-entry facilities etc, are overwhelming the area with people that tend to bring a lot of negative, anti-social behaviors with them.
Leadership that will facilitate small business/commercial creation here.
Leadership is what is lacking. Please seriously consider a new candidate in 2011, preferably not the candidate that may be sponsored by the Democratic Party of crook county.

Almost all of Loyola in RP is in the 40th Ward [O'Connor]. A few properties may be in the 48th Ward. Moore has no say on what Loyola does.
Wasn't ACORN active in Joe's re-election?
I remember there being complaints here and on other blogs about people registered to vote at addresses where the buildings were empty or under construction.
Hopefully the DOJ will negate ACORN's tax status.
Maybe then we'll have a fighting chance to enact REAL Change.
From what I can see - Moore has stunk. BIG THUMBS DOWN However, I have always seen his idiocy in city council. I can't even count the number of times I have emailed or called their office and the only comment is "they will pass the information to the alderman". I agree with I live here too.
Lived here all my life and this is the worst it has ever been. Yesterday on three different occasions I was in the Gateway Parking lot and there is active drug dealing and people walking around looking inside cars. What gives? And this is where a neighborhood policing office is located. I was really shocked!
And going down Clark Street with that catastrophic mess at the corner of Estes and Clark. I have friends who have lived their lives in that area and are so dissatisfied with the process here. It is always about $$$$
The reality, in this economic crises, where is the gratitude for a simple roof over one's head?
