10:00 AM: Another armed robbery occurred today at 10 AM, near the Alderman's office, 7356 North Greenview. The victim, a female, was robbed at gunpoint by a male/black, about 6 foot tall, about 300 pounds. The armed crook took about $100 USC. The offender was in accompaniment of a Hispanic female named Diane. The two thugs fled in the alley behind Joe Moore's office.
The first occurrence happened to Alderman Moore's chief of Staff, Betsy Vanderkook, two days before Christmas.
11:20 AM: A possible fight broke out? Police are asking for transport for a student from Sullivan Fight School.
12:11 PM: All be it 10 minutes late, the ever popular "Howard Street Initiative" has been activated for Wednesday, February 4th. The event number to begin todays mission is 06866.

Please don't automatically equate diversity with crime. A diverse group of millionaries doesn't automatically mean crime. A diverse group of bible thumpers doesn't automatically mean crime. Crime is not an automatic "consequence" of diversity.
A diverse group of criminals is what we have.

Diversity IS NOT the problem.
I focus on behaviors. If you act like a low life scum bag, with the associated anti-social behaviors, then well, you are a low life scum bag, and will be treated as such. It make NO difference to me if you are red, white, or blue.
If you act anywhere close to commonly accepted societally standards of "normal", or until you act like a low life scum bag anyway, I will treat you as I wish to be treated myself.
Also, if one does not believe in diversity, well, Rogers Park IS NOT the right place for you. Most of Chicago, the State, and the Nation isn't much a good fit for you either, but definitely, not Rogers Park! Maybe Utah would be more your thing.
For the record outdoors, in public view, in/on public property, drug using/dealing, drinking, gambling, cussing, screaming, gang-banging, vandalizing, tagging, littering, non-poop picking up-ing, dog fighting, cock fighting, rooster keeping, thieving, etc, etc, IS/ARE NOT commonly accepted forms of acceptable behavior.
This is not a mis-match of expectations of my standards of behavior versus another persons, or cultures accepted normal(s). We all live HERE now. It does not matter that "back home", or whatever else the excuse d-jour is, that those things were OK. They were illegal there, and they are illegal HERE.
PS. although Grammar Gal used the word "diversity" in her post, based on past posts of hers, I am pretty sure she is not anti-diversity either. Even in her post here, she is actually criticizing the CRIME problem, that unfortunately IS associated with the over concentration of subsidized housing, and social services in the Ward.
Many, many (most) of the people that have use of those programs are good solid citizens. Unfortunately for them, the malcontents and abusers of the "system", ruin it for everyone else.

The problem is not diversity. The problem is a dangerously high concentration of subsidized housing in small area.
Cabrini Green taught us that lesson, Joe Moore wasn't paying attention. Subsidized housing is intended to help people out. A high concentration hurts those very people.
This is the Moore legacy.

How long have you lived in Rogers Park? I have lived in Rogers Park 28 years, went to Field, worked with David Orr in the 80's while a student and so on. If I remember right, diversity has always existed in Rogers Park, long before Moore came along.
Why don't you just come out with what the real meaning of "diversity" is to you. You would not be alone on this board from what I am starting to get a clear picture of.

I'm real sorry to hear about your friends reoccurring seizures at school. He's lucky to have a supportive friend like you that understands the trauma involved when episodes of this nature happen.
Since we're on the topic of "diversity", I think the major influx of minorities coming to Rogers Park at the moment happen to be yuppies! Ever think THAT culture shock will cause hostility in a "diverse" neighborhood? Kinda sucks when you have to move for the latest condo conversion!

My friend is in my thoughts and prayers today as he recovers from his seizure. His parents kept him home today to observe him. I will try to give his house a call later to check up on him since he's one of my closet friends (note: the kid who had the seizure the last time is a different kid).
