Good God - that is insane - The underpasses are disgusting and I have complained about them often. People always throw trash and food under the underpasses and the Alderman's office has told me they are aware of it. But, I get they ole "we will pass your information along to the Alderman" - never do I see them getting any better
6 pigeons is a big improvement. there used to always be a score or more. and leslie, it is calls like your, of which there have been many, that lead to this attempt to get rid of the damn things. how can you say they did nothing, when you just saw the video of what they did? the truth is that it is damn hard to get rid of them. the spikes are about the best remedy out there. but they are not 100%. it is way better. this is my block. it has improved a lot. bill, maybe we should just hire you to go out every day and shoot them.
I know I posted this somewhere earlier: All the viaducts from the river [2200 North] to the north end of Evanston are over 100 years old. Just look for the builders plates on them, the dates are 1906-07. Metra just received $47 million from the feds to rebuild or replace them. Most of them are beyond rebuilding, especially the ones far south of us in Lakeview. But the spikes were an idiotic way of doing this. Attaching plain old rat mesh & totally blocking any roosting places for these flying rats would have been far better & a lot cheaper.
The same goes for the nitwits at the CTA who still design stations with roosting places for pigeons & then they too add spikes & use recorded hawk screeches in a failed attempt to keep the flying rats away.
And if I state Illinois law correctly: Pigeons & rats are exempt from all laws on animal cruelty.
JoMo spent $40,000 of OUR MONEY yet his office is mum on who got the contract and the cost breakdown between materials and labor. $40,000 is an awful lot of money on pigeon spikes considering not all viaducts received them.
Why does JoMo demand transparency from Daley but not practice it himself? I believe the word for that is HYPOCRISY!
This is awesome-Joe Moore stupidity, a reference to been there's mullet, and bird poop. Maybe been there's art could be used to roust the panhandlers that hang out near Joe's office as well....
Well not unlike no more pigeons are hard to get rid of especially when people feed them. What I think transparent no more should do is print a copy of both the contract with the pigeon spike setter and the payment. Then no more should call up the spike setter and ask him/ her to come and finish the job Simple as that! no more, no more pigeons. Maybe he should use the pigeon as his mascot!

the spikes do not hurt the birds. they are blunt plastic spikes. they just take over the roost so they can't sit.
