Hi Im a Mom of a Loyola student-lived in RP in the 60's...worked there in the 70's and 80's...so Im pretty familiar with the area...heard a LU student was stabbed and robbed around 1am sometime this week--Ive also heard that since Loyola security handles the Loyola crime-most of it gets covered up...is this true? How do you find out whats REALLY going on??? (suburban Mom)
Could be.
Observing many new incoming classes, every year when it's new student week, Loyola is loaded with extra/extra police.
After the parents are done dropping off their babies, feeling all warm and fuzzy with the extra security they've seen with their own eyes disappears - the calls home start rolling in.
"Mom.... Dad... I just got mugged/robbed and beaten to a pulp. Could you send more money?"
wayne and farwell update
had to call cops
but the van moved already
the van covered the entire corner
parkway.
Its diagonally parked.
very weird.
they left before the cops came.
and i called the cops for weird guys double parking in my driveway last night with no emergency lights on.
as usual this is the place where anthing goes.
I haven't been here for too long, but I can tell you this: sh!t in this neighborhood is getting worse. Watch your back, but don't tote fire like the rest of the republican and scared gangbangers do. Let's be strong and get this neighborhood cleaned up.
Yeah, right.
strange white van is back again at the corner of wayne and farwell
he backed his ass back up on the corner parkway.
called the cops again.
Crying like a little girl (no offense intended towards little girls), he ran up onto his porch and began pounding on the door begging his mama to let him in,lol.
Punk.
The kids really need to be a little smarter - they seem to be oblivious to the fact that they are in the city. Walking alone with your ipod blasting in your ears is just not a good idea!!! Texting while walking with that brand new flashy ipod, etc etc. I see them jogging alone at 11:00 pm - I mean come on!!
well again last night around 10-11pm i called in the plates to the bizarre
white van parked diagonally on the corner last night at wayne and farwell which was left running.
(southwest corner)
the guy came back and said
"whats the matter? im just moving some stuff"
then he said "come here now and get the license plate"
im not surprised that he was unrepetant and thought it was totally okay
to completely park on the small triangle of parkway on the corner.
its weird the van
had the backup beeping noises too.
btw
what do you guys think of the new parking pay boxes on morse?
im surprised they got put in,
i figured morse was a long way off from getting them.
Personally i dont really like the payboxes, but it does spiff things up and probably discourage alot of weird longtime parking
hmmm - I didn't notice the payboxes - I try to avoid Morse whenever possible. Anything they do on that street would be an improvement.
What in the world do you think is going on with The Morse Theatre? It is amazing that all that money was invested and now it's closed? Anyone hear anything? At a neighborhood association meeting a couple months ago the woman from the alderman's office said she hadn't heard anything.
I've noticed since LAZ took over no one is using the metered spots during enforcement hours on Morse and Glenwood.
Question. Where are all those cars parking that once parked there?

Well, this is all third-hand info I piece together from people in the neighborhood, someone who used to work there, etc.
I heard it will open again after this ownership stuff gets sorted out (two different parties are fighting for control I think - a difference in business philosophy). I thought I heard that the Pritzkers were either already involved in it or were going to buy it outright and reopen it. But the prevailing word I hear is that it will reopen.
Just a matter of when.
Also, in my opinion, they needed to revamp their booking tactics. Too many shows were out of a reasonable price range for acts that only the most hardcore fan would know who they were. A little more variety, lower priced shows would have helped. Oh, and the drink prices were to high to make it a reasonable afterwork place to hit for a drink. Morseland was kicking their ass.
It's everywhere that parking spaces are not being used now that the rates are so high.
I see it on Clark & on Devon, especially by Misener's Animal Hospital. That was always filled up, now there are plenty of spaces.
This is backfiring for Daley in more ways than you think.

My very dearest fellow Rogers Parkers:
Thanks to all of you for this most helpful information.
At a recent 2431 CAPS meeting a very distinquished looking lady reported a van being parked in her alley (Morse/Sheridan)at odd hours of the night. This is probably not the same van at the one Mr/Ms jetto is reporting.
Please, fellow neighbors, do not criticize the Loyola students so harshly. Many of them may be coming from very advantaged homes and are not used to living amongst the downtrodden victims of this society. It might be useful, if you see them behaving in a way that entices or teases those who are less fortunate, to warn them against displaying obvious symbols of wealth and good luck. I am sure they would be grateful for your kind intentions.
Let me add finally that I love the new parking payboxes on Morse. The sidewalk will be free of those dreadful rusting old parking meters. I am not privileged enough to own a car but I am sure everyone will get used to a new way of doing things. Thank you.
I'm a Loyola student, and I never walk outside after dark, listen to an Ipod, and I do not have a flashy phone (Thanks for assuming we're all complacent idiots). Although I do not commit any of these idiocies, thugs have attempted to rob me in the middle of the afternoon several times. Before they try to rob you they look behind them to see if the moms pushing strollers or people walking their dogs can see. It's real cute, and I'm REAL sick of it. I carry mace, but it's not going to do me any good against two or three individuals.
Courtney K,
Send that note to the alderman. In fact, tell everyone of your fellow students to send in their incidents of crime in the area too. Every time. Over and over again. You guys are a big part of RP. If students decided to start going to a different school rather than deal with the danger of attending Loyola in RP, the school will have to act and the alderman will have to act. Write him. Call him.
Alderman's Office
