Birchwood Bill said.....> "I heard today Don was goin to appear at Northpoint towers and Joe's people spread word Don was cleansing the neighborhood of the black popluation. This caused people to think there might be a race roit. Craig, did you hear anything about this?"
Sure did. Margot will have a report on this little nasty politicking by Alderman Moore and Wayne Fraizer.
Note to Wayne. You should be a shamed of yourself. You are a real Uncle Tom slimeball.
Fagus says....> "As to the objection to union folks I started this post with, there are thousands of union members in this ward. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of SEIU members that live in the ward and by the way, some of them work in the ward for various employers as well."
Do any SEIU local 880 union workers work at DevCorp North, the Alderman's private neighborhood cleaning service?
The CFL and the SEIU probably have their own universe of voters they are working off of - a list of their members and those who are members of Working America - non-union workers who have expressed interest in pro-union issues.
This list - made up of unionized workers from all walks of life and of "union sympathizers" (for lack of a better term) can easily and quickly get into the thousands.
Racially, Rogers Park has a large African American community - in Chicago 60% of SEIU's members are.... you guessed it ... African American. 1 in every 4 residents in Rogers Park is now Latino. The service trades, construction trades and food and commercial trades also have a large segment of Latinos' within their unions. Many recently arrived immigrants are also unionized.
So in terms of union members in the 49th Ward I'm sure it's a sizeable population. I think Gordon distances himself from labor issues and unions at his own risk.
Now for those that knock unions - take this into account. A union worker will earn +27% in wages over a non-unionized worker. For the African-American community that number jumps to +29% more in wages. And for Latinos - the jump is drastic! +57% more in wages. Now, put that in the context of the young Latino families in Rogers Park (1/4 of the population.)
These are the numbers we have to look at when objectively assesing union involvement in the 49th Ward. The reality is that with a large black population in RP and a large Latino population in RP, RP probably has many, many unionized voters. And the union's defenitely have a reason to be here.
"there are thousands of union members in this ward. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of SEIU members that live in the ward."
First of all, I really doubt there are "thousands" of SEIU members living in the 49th. But those that do, will be familiar with Moore's horrible neglect of the ward and will be voting against him 4/17.
So Fagus, when are you going to allow comments on YOUR blog, Mr. Big D Democrat?
"there are thousands of union members in this ward. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of SEIU members that live in the ward."
So why do you have to PAY OUTSIDERS to come in to work for Joe Moore?
When SEIU first announced they were going to get more involved in ward politics in Chicago, they proposed recruiting members to work as precinct captains IN THEIR OWN PRECINCT. That's not what they're doing.
" ... your own candidate who has take money and support from the restaurant association and if he hasn’t already will be taking money and support from the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, an organization that has a downtown address and a complete list of downtown interests that will do nothing for the 49th Ward."
Oh, my GOD, that's RICH!
The CHALLENGER is the one beholden to outside interests?
Who you crappin?
You condemn him for contributions you think he is GOING to take?
"There has to be a balance and a recognition that even if you are not a delegate to the United Nations, or sent to Washington, DC, Springfield, IL, or any other level of government, but the city you are still a citizen of the United States and you have a right if not a responsibility to stand up and be heard on the most important issues of our time."
HEY JOE!
Joe Moore for UN Ambassador from Rogers Park!
Go to Washington, PLEASE!
Go to Springfield!
Go anywhere!
You'll be happier, we'll be happier. It's best, really. It's what you want, it's what we want. Just do it.
On the one hand "Joe is great for his Iraq War Resolution", but on the other hand "it took almost no work to do". I've heard the same said of the Foie Gras ordinance. Which is it? How much time did all the media interviews take?
The vast majority of Gordon volunteers are Ward residents donating their time, which speaks volumes.
Fagus, you dope, the alderman represents HIS Ward. That's who voted him in, that's who's voice he should hear, respect, and vote in accordance with. The State issues fall with our State Representatives. The National issues fall with our Congressional Representataives. The alderman sticking his nose in where it does not belong, (against the wishes of his constituency), is simply misguided. Focus needs to return to the needs of those who live in the ward.
The coffee had been planned in advance, invitations were handed out. No one complained until Friday. Then some Moore/Frazier fans took it upon themselves to stir up the waters and called the NP office, the Oakbrook office and even the GA office. Allegedly, only one person contacted the Sr. VP and said she had heard there would be riots and damage.
At any rate, NP management believed the perceived threats and cancelled. But word wasn't received until mid-afternoon Friday after all the proper calls discussing violence had been made.
The race card is a very popular one in Moore's tyranny. His tree killers brag of extending NP for 30 years, he lost 4,000 affordable rentals to his developer pals and runs his Frazier dude to spread the 1960's game - every election.
At least Gordon didn't put an illegal sign in Gale Park or one at the site of the future, future, coming soon fire station on Clark.

Someone rang my bell, a Moore volunteer, and I just opened the window and told him Im a Gordon Girl.
He didn't ring any more bells on my tier and I saw him exit the courtyard.
Fagus said....> "There are some who are quite concerned that union folks, namely SEIU, are in the neighborhood volunteering for one of the candidates.
Dear Mr. Fagus, This SIEU door knocker wasn't volunteering, he was working. He said so himself. If you don't believe me, watch the video.

Mr. Fagus, do you have actual data to back up these wild claims?
How many of these thousands of 49th ward union members vote in the 49th ward?
Fagus said....> "When the living wage ordinance is passed by the city council and the county board"
Mr. Fagus, Are you a lobbyist for the 'Living Wage' Ordinance?
What's the county board have to do with this?
Do you know something we don't? Are you drafting county legislation now?

Key question from Craig: "WHere do you live?"
Answer: none

"A resolution like the Iraq War resolution is ... not terribly difficult or time consuming to prepare, introduce and vote on."
Obviously.
Joe Moore did it.
"No Alderman is elected to the Chicago City Council with the sole purpose of representing only their ward."
Speak for yourself.
In April WE WILL ELECT ALDERMEN FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF REPRESENTING THE WARD.
We already have senators and congressmen, thanks!
We need an alderman.
Alderman is a not a mini-me senator.

Does David think before he writes?
I'd be curious to know. Has Joe ever been the member of a union?
I don't care WHAT my alderman thinks about the war in Iraq.
I CARE ABOUT THE WAR ON GANGS, RIGHT HERE!
I don't care WHAT my alderman thinks about cruelty to ducks.
I DON"T WANT TO OPEN MY PAPER AND READ ABOUT ANY MORE CHILDREN BURNING.

"Joe Moore might as well be a union member for all he does for us,"
Dennis Gannon, Chicago Federation of Labor.
Is Mr. Gannon aware Alderman Moore promotes slaves wages at DevCorp North, his personal taxpayer funded ward janitorial service?
Look it up. Filed under SSA#19 and #24.
