* Shovel Your Walkway People

How To Do It

1327-39 West Lunt. Shoveled nicely, right to the concrete sidewalk. No ice patches. This shovel job has a extra wide pathway to walk on. If you had to use a push-cart or wheelchair, you'd have no problems along this strip of Lunt. This is how a sidewalk should be shoveled. (Note, done by paid professionals.)
How NOT To Do It

Let's move right down the street a few doors east to Peter Sterniuk's recently torn down Crack House at 1309 West Lunt. Even though the eyesore is gone, If someone was in a wheelchair, they'd be stuck, for sure. Mr. Sterniuk is still creating a unsafe neighborhood.

Maybe it's this way because he doesn't tend to his property on a regular basis.

This has happened twice this year! A couple of weeks ago - he forgot to shovel that snow too. That snow turned to ice. Talk about a dangerous situation. Mr. Sterniuk is making a habit of this.

Blognotes: Come-on neighbors, let's be just that - neighborly. Please shovel your walkway. It's not just a rule, it's common courtesy. Plus, it makes it easier for the mailman to deliver those Christmas cards and gifts that friends and relatives send out this time of year. So this is my holiday message to Mr. Sterniuk and other's like him, don't be a scrooge, shovel your walkway.

I should and will note, Mr. Medina at 1237-43 West Lunt has been maintaining his shoveling duties very well.

Once considered a poor property owner, Mr. Medina has made great strides in 2007.

Mr. Medina's Slumlord of the Year'' streak ends at 2.

You'd think the way the city likes to ticket people as a source of revenue, that they would be all over this. Seeing as we are having budget dificulties, the income could be useful.

It should be $25 or $50 per day, after a week or two without shoveling that would add up nicely.

I agree with Dave. Snowy, icy sidewalks are a major problem for those who have difficulty walking or need assistance to get around (like those on walkers and in wheelchairs). I would support ticketing property owners for that.

Day 2 @ 1309 West Lunt. Snow has not been shoveled yet.

If you know of a property owner who hasn't shoveled their snow, leave the address here, I'll go by and snap a photo and post it.

Thanks Dave, that is a start. The elderly home seems to be a good first target unless someone's reading this and gets to it first.

The route in this post bothers me particularly because a blind man walks on this slick spot twice a day to the get to Morse EL in order to get to work.

I saw a lady with a walker trying to get though this area yesterday at 3:45. She was having a terrible time.

I heart the R.P. said...

The home owner at 1632 Farwell doesn't give a crap about his neighbors either. His side walk is a mess, although he takes time to snow blower out his side and rear yard he sells for parking.
His dogs are neglected, too. They have the run of the front yard, and it's poop heaven!

And there is nothing worse than seeing a handicapped person in a wheelchair trying to get down a sidewalk full of ice and snow . . .
