Rogers Park has suffered numerous assaults and grievous injuries under the 17-year plus aldermanship of Joseph A. Moore.
But deliberately keeping the new field house in Gale Park closed, locking out the community and the already-hired staff, as the summer slips away, while at the same time stabbing in the back the unions who put him in office, all in the name of petty political retribution - takes the cake. In my humble opinion, it's easily the most despicable thing Joe Moore has ever done. It's criminal.
But, reasonable persons may disagree. There's certainly no dearth of sad episodes to choose from!

- welcoming a convicted arsonist to our community as a slumlord in good standing and taking campaign contributions
- endorsing Todd Stroger
- making his campaign fund Citizens for Joe Moore available to his campaign manager Bob Creamer to use as one of the shells in Creamer's check-kiting scheme
- fomenting racial hatred for political purposes by distributing fake campaign literature
- paying a near-destitute unemployed woman with campaign cash to steal files from an opponent's campaign
- making the rounds of senior homes with a wad of cash in his suit coat pocket, sponsoring "bingo tournament" cash prizes on early voting day
- taking developer cash in return for serving as their point man in eviscerating the Lake Front Protection Ordinance

My word, making a choice here is like the folks during the Middle Ages debating how many angels could dance on the head of a pin!
Time would be better spent debating how to rid the rogers Park community of the plague that is Joe Moore, and to see what steps can be taken to make sure the feds put him away for a long time!

Accepting a paycheck for being the most ineffective, laughable alderman in Chicago.
There are so many to choose from - Today I am going to pick backing Todd Stroger - I never knew Moore did that - what is he? crazy!!
As a lover of foie gras, his sponsorship of the ordinance banning foie gras.
And then watching him huff and puff when Mayor Daley blew down his house and repealed the ban.

The foie gras ban was totally ineffective, mercifully brief, and of course completely ridiculous, but what raises it to the level of the truly, outrageously DESPICABLE acts on this list is understanding that it had nothing to do with compassion for our feathered friends but was in fact all about campaign fund-raising.

The mayor completely bitch slapped Joe in front of the entire city, and Joe doesn't care because he was already paid.

Trader Joe's to go into downtown Evanston? Where?
I would have loved to have had a Trader Joe's there, too, but I'm sorry to say that stores are not going to come or stay away because some people think they're needed or not.
Regrettably, Trader Joe's evidently saw no reason to come, or saw reasons to stay away. Maybe the rent was too high, or maybe they have these obsolete ideas about parking. Or maybe the space just didn't suit.
I would rather have had Trader Joe's but a Staples is great, too. It's nice to have a decent place to get printer cartridges and paper without going clear down to Lakeview or Andersonville for it. The place fills an empty niche.
Maybe we'll get a Trader Joe's on the corner of Devon and Sheridan, on the space occupied by the shady loan outlet.
